"Hey, I'll be right down," I shout. I look back at Xarla. "Come on, I'll introduce you. Please, don't invade her mind. That's so wrong."

"If she doesn't do anything suspicious, I won't have to," she says. I roll my eyes as we walk downstairs.

"Hey, Teag, this is Carla, she's going to be filing the vacancy you left," I say.

Teagan raises an eyebrow. "That was fast."

"Well... She is a friend I've been chatting online with and she just got a visa to the states. I figured I had more than enough room here, so why not?"

"Okay," she says, nodding. She turns to Xarla and sticks out her hand. "In that case, it's nice to meet you. Any friend of Kaleigh is a friend of mine."

"Nice to meet you as well," Xarla says.

I lean in and whisper in Xarla's ear. "You're supposed to shake her hand."

Her eyes go wide as she quickly takes Teagan's hand and shakes it profusely.

"Well, I'm glad you're not all alone here," she says as her eyes meet mine.

"Thanks, I'll give you a hand with your stuff," I smile.

"Okay, sounds good," she smiles. I head up to Teagan's room with her and we start boxing up her stuff. "So... Are you going to give me the details about your friend?"

"I uh... Well, it's kind of complicated. We met online, you know how that is..."

"Well, she's hot." Too bad she's an alien. When I wished that a girl would just fall from the sky, I didn't mean literally. "Are you going to hit that?"

"No... I mean, I don't know. I mean, she's just my roommate. Besides, she's not going to stay here all that long. Eventually, she's going to go home. So it's not like there's any long term potential."

"Don't give up so easily, you never know. If I were you, I'd at least give it a try. You never know, she might change her mind and stay if she had the right reason," she says. Yeah, I highly doubt that.

After we pack up a bunch of boxes of her stuff, I help her carry it down. We load them up into her truck. "I just need to grab a few things from the garage."

"Wait. Umm... Carla's kind of got the garage a mess, I can just bring those things to you later. Just give me a list," I say.

"Uh, okay," Teagan says. "What all does she have going on in the garage?"

"Just her work. She's like an engineer inventor or whatever, but she's very insecure about her work and she gets very touchy about letting anyone see it," I say.

"Oh, I see. Well no big deal, I'll text you a list of my shit and you can drop it off later," she says.

I smile. "Sounds good."

"So, I guess I'll see you tomorrow at work," she says with a half-hearted smile.

"Definitely," I say and I pull her into a hug.

After she leaves, I let out a sigh of relief. That was close. I need to figure something out here. How long is she going to be here? This is really making things difficult. Although, I can't help but think about what Teagan said. But... I couldn't possibly date an alien. Even if she's super hot. She's not staying here long. I don't see the point. Plus, she's kind of intimidating. And she's rather... What's the word, apathetic? No. More like, rigid.

I can't get her alien form out of my head either. Not she's ugly or anything like that. Not at all. It's just so different. Her pitch-black skin is kind of exotic and it contrasts her snow-white hair, but it's those eyes... It feels like they can pierce into my very soul. I don't even want to get started on her abilities. She can read minds and lift objects with a thought. What else can she do?

Interesting

The basic plot reminds me of something but I can't think what so it must be from a very long time ago. One thing I do remember is from about 1970---you have a couple of characters wonder whether Titan or Starlight would win a fight. My 1970 memory is of a speculative article in a fantasy magazine. The writer put all the sword & sorcery heroes in an arena to fight it out. The last two standing were Conan and Fafhrd. Anyway, Scarlet, Falling from the Sky looks as if it will be an interesting tale to follow (Xarla seems to be full of Yoda-like tricks although she's way better looking). So it's five stars from me for this intriguing beginning.

A very good start. Character intro is good. They all seem a bit chatty. But I am guessing that is to connect the story with others in this universe. 5 stars for a good introduction. I am looking forward to where this will go . Since she is from another country , the slip of her being an alien can be accounted for when the question comes up again.

Do go on

You have my curiosity, I'd like to see where this goes. The alien have alot of things to learn, and your heroine have a tough task ahead of her..
