This meant something to the Galician people.

It meant their king was alive.

And Jack was ready to give them a fighting chance. He didn't yet know what approach he would take to make that happen. All he had was a chance to make things right, and he would see that chance through the best he could.

Galicia deserved as much.

As they pulled closer to theDestiny, Kat nuzzled against his side. "Are you doing okay this morning?"

Jack nodded confidently. "I'm not bad at all. I feel great actually. Like we're at the dawn of a new day. You know, more than literally."

She smiled warmly. "I kind of feel the same way." Her hand crept into his briefly. "I'm glad we stopped here."

"Me too."

The launch boat pulled alongside theDestiny, and they were soon hoisted up. Jack hopped onto the deck of the mighty cruiser and then proceeded to help the women off next. Not surprisingly, as soon as the whole group was back on solid ground, a familiar face approached them from behind.

"Back so soon, huh?" asked Greg with a sly grin. "And here we were just getting used to having you off the ship."

Jack chuckled. "Can't have that. This is still my task force after all."

Greg laughed and slapped his back playfully. "Well, we're glad to have you back. You ready to get sailing again?"

"I'm feeling good, and I'm ready to get to our next destination."

"Are you feeling rested now after all that R&R? I bet you spent all that time on the beach with fruity drinks, didn't you?" asked Greg with a grin.

Jack gave him a funny look and rested his hand on the other man's shoulder. "Yeah, about that. We should have a talk."

Why is everyone in the know dancing around the obvious fact that Kat is the deposed regent?

small error..

Page 7 I believe, when Vera was thinking of her maternal grandmother....it would actually be her paternal grandmother. They may have a maternal grandmother someplace...and possibly cousins from their mothers side...but she was the commoner, whereas Evelyn was their fathers mother...correct?

Anonymous - Yes, you are correct. The Javans are a mix of the first Galician settlers of the island and the native People of the Lake. It was a match born out of necessity since the Galicians settlers were mostly men and the People of the Lake had most of their men killed off in a great war between them. Nature took its own course from there. Great reference!

So the Javans are like the Mixed American people (for example the mixed Latinos) in that they have a mixed ancestry of both Galician (European) and the People of the Lake (Native Americans).

Artemis, thank you for your kind words! Here's an answer to your questions:

1. The Occitanian prisoners are being kept in Andalucia, most likely in the former slave pens since they don't have a use for them any longer. Seeing as having nearly a thousand extra mouths to feed will hamper the Andalucians, I quite expect Masud to find some solution to them soon that may involve sending them back across the ocean to Java. How that will be done still remains to be seen.

2. Her journal was small enough that she was able to save it by keeping it within her clothes. Slaves in Andalucia are still allowed possessions, even if they are no longer in charge of the course of their lives. Neither party would have thrown out something innocent like a journal especially as long as she behaved.

3. Those are their real birth names. I've intentionally made Galician/Javan names in the same style (English) because of the historical links between the two countries. In this case, no one knew they were still alive (apart from the Regents), so there was no reason to disguise the names. Of course, Easterbrook is not the royal name, but rather that of his adoptive parents. With Evelyn, Kat spilled who Vera was right as they entered the house, so there was no need for her to put two and two together. Plus you have to remember she hasn't seen them since they were very young, so just by having them show up on her doorstep, she might not know who they were by sight alone. Unless it was by the fact that Kat brought these two obviously Galician people to her doorstep who were at the same ages as the long lost grandchildren, and then she'd figure it out on her own, but Kat spills it before she can do this.

As for Greg and Vera, you'll have to keep reading to find out if you're right about that. :)

Great questions though, and I'm glad you're enjoying my work! Chapter 19 has been submitted for approval and I expect it will go up either tomorrow or Monday.
