Regan literally collapsed against me.
"Bad news is she's about a pound lighter."
"What happened?" Regan asked barely lifting her head from my shoulder.
"They had to amputate a little of her foot. She lost three toes and part of a fourth along with a little of the meat along the outside edge of her foot."
"But she'll be okay?" Regan asked.
"Well a career as a ballerina is out of the question," Regan snorted hearing that. "But yeah, she'll be okay. She'll have a bit of a limp but nothing drastic."
"Thanks Uncle Mike," Regan said softly.
"You're welcome Regan. And Regan..."
"Yeah."
"You should know. From the preliminary report it looks like Raymond died protecting her." There was a bit of silence, none of us knowing what to say. "Well I have to get back to work, see you soon."
We kinda went through the motions, putting a few things in suitcases and loading them in the Navigator along with a few hanging things. I managed to get another glass of wine in her before we went to bed so she at least got some sleep after a long cuddling shower.
___
I woke to Regan slipping out of bed, watching her make the rounds. Slipping her little panties up snug against her mound and shaved lips. Sliding her bra on and doing up the front clip before getting her tits situated just right in it. Her dark areola and firm nipples drawing my gaze, the light pink lace just offsetting beautifully with her chocolate skin. I was just staring at her.
"What?"
I slid out of bed, my semi hard on leading the way. I stepped to her and cupped a tit and a cheek before giving her a nice kiss, "Have I told you lately how gorgeous you are?"
Regan smiled, "I don't remember, remind me."
I pulled her to me feeling the heat of her thinly covered mound against my thigh, her nipple hardening inside her bra as I squeezed and kissed her.
It's amazing what a woman can do. A chocolate vision in a little pink bra and panties, an old pair of shorts and a thin tank top just thin enough to let a hint of pink show through topped with just a touch of makeup, DAMN SHE LOOKS GOOD!
It's incredible what little things you grab at to distract yourself...
We drove and chatted, bits and pieces on the house plans and various current events, staying away from speculating on what we would find when we got back to Fox Lake. Sometimes Regan just sitting there and staring out at the road, often drifting off in the middle of a sentence.
By lunch time it was a quiet drive. Holding hands and exchanging glances listening to music. Only asking about snacks when we stopped for gas. The long sigh as we pulled into Mom and Dad's, not looking forward to what was coming.
We were met at the door by Mom, I got a hug and so did Regan. We came in to my sister Patty and her family, Uncle Mike was on his way. I turned to grab our bags and when I got back in Regan as bawling with her arms wrapped around Mom. I stopped and put my hand on Regan's shoulder. She put her hand on mine and squeezed it, then the wail was back and she wrapped her arms around Mom again.
Twenty minuets later my Regan was back, a bit red eyed but back. We sat down to supper just after Chi arrived. It was a big hug fest and some crying between them before we sat down, Chi giving us a little run down on what happened to Latessa. Regan feeling better knowing in the grand scheme of things it was a minor problem, or at least that's the way she made us feel afterwards. Everybody getting Regan involved on other conversations, asking about what was happening in Pensacola.
Regan telling an R rated version, since my nieces were at the table, of our weekend teasing TJ and gigging the sheriff. Her grinning at me when she left the body painting and the micro bikini boat tour out. Uncle Mike was roaring laughing and Mom and Patty were alternating between gasping and laughing at what they pulled on the guys. I think Patty's wide eyed expression looking at me later told me Regan told her about the body paint on Sunday. At least I hope that was it and not my eating her to a screaming orgasm when everybody had left. She wouldn't tell my SISTER that, would she? WOULD SHE?
___
We got up and dressed the next morning, Regan teasing me flashing me her white lace thong and bra before going downstairs. It might have even been the same thong she wore the first day I saw her, either way it fit sooo nicely up between her cheeks.
Regan got her next surprise at the bottom of the stairs. Mom and Patty were waiting on us, and they were coming with us. Regan tried to object, but was over ridden by a 'mom' vote. This could be interesting with her families' attitude on white people.
When we walked into her room there was screeches and out stretched arms. After the hugging between sisters there were the looks. "Who are they?"
"Tess..." she said with some exasperation, "you remember Larry. He was here when I was in here. This is his mom and sister."
"So why are they here?"
Regan held up her hand showing her ring, "We're getting married remember?"
Tess was going to say something, but mom jumped in. "So that makes you family!" she then sat down and the inquisition began.
I almost had to laugh. I had been on the receiving end of one of these several times in the past. THERE WAS NO GETTING AROUND THEM. Mom would ask a question and wait for the answer. She did not, however, give you the chance to ask something in return.
Your answer was IMMEDIATELY followed up with another question, and another, and another. Before you knew it you were telling her things you shouldn't, or couldn't believe you were. Uncle Mike said she was the one that should have been a detective.
Patty gave me a knowing smile. This level of questioning was reserved for family, REAL family. For a little while the girls forgot about their brothers. It would be painful no matter what.
I was almost beginning to enjoy this as a spectator when I got a text from Uncle Mike. WHERE ARE YOU?
HOSPITAL VISITING LATESSA
FIFTH FLOOR CHAPEL, TWENTY MINUTES, ALONE
I told Regan I had to run upstairs giving her a not so quick kiss and getting a raised eyebrow from her and a hesitation from Latessa in an answer to Mom's question. Patty just snickered.
Uncle Mike showed up just after I did, "Hey kiddo, how's it going?" getting a handshake / hug.
"About as well as can be expected. Mom's up grilling Latessa so she's in pure defensive mode right now."
Mike kicked his head back and groaned, "Don't remind me."
"So why the meeting up here?"
Mike got all serious, "What's your take on Latessa?"
"About what?"
"Her brothers, her family, that kind of stuff."
Mike was speaking in code, "What aren't you saying?"
Mike gripped my shoulder, "Just humor me, what can you tell me about the girl?"
"Well not much. Regan's little sister. Idolizes her big brothers. A little on the naive side from the sound of Regan's description."
Mike smiled, "That was the impression I got as well, just wanted to see what you thought."
"And?"
"And."
"And what is the rest of the story?"
Mike looked around and then sighed, "The shit is going to hit the fan pretty quickly. She and Regan need to be ready for it but they can't know its coming. No warning others, I shouldn't even be telling you."
"How bad?"
"Bad enough it took all we had to get them to hold off until after the boys' funeral."
"Them?"
"Feds."
"But the boys are dead and Latessa's in the hospital."
"The boys were only part of it. It took a lot of convincing Latessa wasn't involved. She was the only one without drugs in her system. She's only seventeen for Christ's sake," the last part coming out a bit strong.
"She's only seventeen..." Mike just nodded at me. I couldn't believe she was only seventeen. The girl I saw visiting Regan looked to be in her early if not mid twenties at least. "So how bad?"
"I can't say, but in a few days her foot is going to be the least of her worries."
"Mike, Mom's down there treating her like family..."
"Good," he said as he got up and turned to leave. "We may be the only family she had left," he said just loud enough for me to hear as he walked away.
I sat there a bit trying to put the pieces together, Mike was warning me as best he could without telling me anything. And if his hint was even close to accurate he was risking his job even talking to someone close to Latessa which explained meeting up here.
When I got back down Mom and Patty were in the hall and there were raised voices coming from Latessa's room. Regan came out almost in tears a few minutes later and straight into my arms.
We sat there a bit more catching little snippets through the closed door before the staff came down and told them to quiet down or leave. Her folks came storming out of the room, slowing down enough to give us all the evil eye, especially Regan still in my arms. Mom stood up and gave her dad a look I will never forget. One of those looks that would have had the pope burning at the stake for witchcraft.
Regan ducked back into Latessa's room to say goodbye, but Latessa didn't respond. It was a quiet drive home, and an almost as quiet evening. We decided to watch a movie...
___
Latessa was fitted with a walking boot and was to be released the following day. We showed up again at visiting hours, and at first it was a stalemate between Regan and Latessa, but eventually she cracked. After lunch we went back to her room and Mom was even making some headway when I got a text from Uncle Mike. TSHHTF C32 Translation: the shit has hit the fan, turn on channel thirty two.
Mom gave me a bit of a look, but almost gasped when I mouthed 'Uncle Mike'. I got some protests from Regan turning the TV on, but came to a screeching halt when I flipped to channel thirty two.
Seems the feds decided not to wait for the funeral. The breaking news was a coordinated raid on several houses and businesses with connections to drugs and various other criminal activities. And right there on the screen playing for the umpteenth time were Latessa and Regan's parents being led away in handcuffs. The girls were in each others arms crying.
Not twenty minutes later two FBI agents came strolling through the door right up to Latessa's bed. No wind breakers or anything, but they just oozed FBI. "Ms. Smithers, we'd like to ask you a few questions."
Before any of us could react Patty jumped up, "And you are?"
"Agents Johansen and Vasques, FBI."
"Ahhh," Patty smiled that smile that would let her get away with anything, "And of course you have some ID?"
They smiled back, "Of course Ma'am." They pulled out their ID's and showed them to Patty like they had the keys to the city.
Patty turned her cell phone over in her hand and brought it up closer to her face, "So agents Johansen and Vasques of the FBI, is it your intention to question an injured and medicated minor without the presence of her parent or legal guardian?"
Patty hadn't touched them, but they looked like they had just been kicked in the balls with steel toed boots.
"We'll...uh... we'll just wait for her guardian."
They stepped back against the wall and stood there with hands in front of them. Patty followed them with her cell phone held out like a weapon. "Agent Johansen, is Ms. Smithers under arrest?"
"No Ma'am."
She turned to the other one, "Agent Vasques, is Ms. Smithers in protective custody?"
He smiled at her, "No Ma'am."
Patty smiled back, "So your only reason for standing here in this room is to intimidate Ms. Smithers?" Damn she's good!
"Well ummm, no. we're not trying to..."
"Then get out of this room, and don't even think about hanging around the door like she's under arrest or you'll find yourself in front of a judge in the morning."
Evidentially Agent Johansen was going to call her bluff, "Are you an attorney Ma'am?"
"No," he began to smile, "I leave that to my husband and father-in-law."
I'll give him this, he was determined, "And your name is?"
She smiled right back at him, "The wicked witch of the west. Now I believe you were told to leave."
They left, and not happily.
As soon as they were out the door Patty turned to us, "We're going to the cafeteria for a bit. Larry, grab a wheel chair."
Latessa tried to object, I knew better. Patty unhooked her monitors and had her in the wheel chair before the nurse got there, telling her we were headed to the cafeteria. The agents tried to get on the elevator but Patty stopped them. "This one is full."
I managed not to laugh, four people in an elevator big enough to handle two rolling beds and associated paraphernalia, and it was 'full'.
They thought about arguing but she just held up her cell phone in their faces. We made it to the cafeteria with the agents scurrying in from the stairs. The girls took their time figuring out what they wanted and there was a bit of chit chat at the table until the agents sat down two tables away.
Patty calmly got up and snapped pictures of their faces, then backed up enough to show they were two tables away, then even further to show the big almost empty cafeteria then pointed to the far side. They got the hint.
About half way through the meal Mom and Patty made a bathroom run, slipping something in front of me when they came back.
Larry - bring the Navigator around to the emergency entrance and wait for us there.
Regan - go back up to the room and get all of your sisters' things and take them to the car.
Wait for us and be ready to move when we get there.
I had to smile, WE'RE HAVIN' A JAILBREAK!
I gave Regan a kiss, barely remembering not to grope her in front of mom and her sister, and headed for the parking lot. And just to be ornery I grabbed a screw driver from my tool kit and pulled the license plate, no sense making it easy for them with a plate number. I pulled up just shy of the emergency entrance and a few minutes later Regan came out carrying a small trash bag.
And then we waited, and waited. I wanted to call Patty but I knew better. I had just about changed my mind, COMING OUT NOW.
I pulled up to the doors just as they were coming out. They got Latessa in and then themselves and we were out the lot in less than two minutes.
We had barely gotten five blocks and Latessa came unglued, saying we were kidnapping her and all sorts of trash. Patty managed to get a hold of one flying hand and then the other putting herself inches from Latessa's face. "Do you know anything about what happened with your parents tonight?"
"NO!"
Patty looked into her eyes a bit then released her hands, "Good. I believe you, but those two FBI agents don't."
"So why are you kidnapping me?" she said rather strongly.
"We're not, we protect family. You can come home with us or we can drop you anywhere you want. Hell, we'll even take you back to them if you really want to." turning and sitting back with her arms crossed like she had been insulted.
Latessa was going to say something but Regan turned to look back at her, "Tess, let's just go home and figure things out. Okay?" The rest of the ride was in silence.
When we got to the house we didn't have a wheel chair so I just picked Latessa up and carried her into the house. "Larry, I catch you feeling up my little sister and I'm going to kick your ass!"
"Yes Dear".
I sat Latessa on one end of the couch and put a pillow under her foot to elevate it then turned to Regan. I wrapped one arm around her back, "Now what was this about feeling someone up?"
"LAWRENCE!" mom said as I kissed Regan.
"Yes Mommy." I said without looking away from Regan. Mom gasped and Patty lost it laughing. I got another quick kiss from Regan as I let my hand drop to her ass for a quick squeeze away from mom.
"Tease," she whispered in my ear before she turned back to the girls.
From the bug eyed look on Latessa's face she saw a bit more of my grabbing Regan's ass than Mom and Patty did.
Patty the fixer took over. She called Nate and brought him up to speed and then there was a lots of 'uh huh' and 'okay' before she hung up. She went to her purse and grabbed some of Nate's cards and distributed them to us. "So here's the drill. Unless pressed you don't say where Tess is. You don't lie but you don't tell, just hand whoever one of Nate's cards and tell them to contact her attorney. You don't answer any calls unless you know the number, and even then you be careful what you say. Got it?"
Mom and I nodded, we had seen this from a distance before and had heard the speech in it's various forms. Regan and Latessa were another story. They had bewildered looks on their faces trying to decide on who was going to ask first, Regan won out.
"Honey, what's going on?"
I sat on the coffee table in front of them and reached for Regan's hand. She reached for me and I kissed her palm. "Right now nothing is going on, and that's the whole point. I don't know what will or will not happen in the next few days but I know we're going to make sure you and your sister are okay."
She smiled that smile that made my heart melt.
"I do know that what happened is part of something big, probably a long ongoing investigation. With the FBI involved that makes it federal, probably because somebody crossed a state line or something, and they can be a little aggressive some times. Now like Patty said, no lying, but no volunteering or guessing either. We don't want them trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Got it?"
Dad got home shortly and he and I headed down to the den to get away from all the estrogen.
"How bad is it?" he asked.
I just shrugged, "Bad enough for Uncle Mike to warn me but not bad enough that he couldn't."
"Does she have any idea what's going on?"
"I don't think so, and neither does Uncle Mike."
He sat and sipped his drink for a moment, "Good enough for me." We kicked back to watch Die Hard, the girls were upstairs watching Sleepless in Seattle. Regan came down and watched the last of it with us tucked under my arm before dragging me off to bed, well the shower anyway.
We started cuddling and washing each other, then Regan just collapsed in my arms crying, the day catching up with her. I managed to get her rinsed and dried, at least getting a cackle and giggle when I picked her up and carried her to bed while doing my best to grope the side of her tit and her ass.
We cuddled a bit, Regan spooned in front of me holding my hand to her tit. "I love you Larry," she said softly.
"I love you to babe." I kissed her neck just below her ear getting a little sigh out of her, "We'll figure it out. One day at a time maybe, but we'll figure it out."
"How..." she took a deep breath, "how did your sister know what to do at the hospital? What to say to the FBI?"
I chuckled a little. "Well that's a little family secret." I nipped at her ear, "but I guess I could tell you," she giggled a little.
"Nate and his father really are lawyers, really really good lawyers. And with Uncle Mike and a few cousins on the force we've been around it a little."
"Oh."
"That, and Nate has a distant cousin that IS with the FBI, and he and Patty don't exactly see eye to eye."
"She is a force to be reckoned with."
"Oh you have NO idea. I wanted to throw a party when she went off to college."
Regan snickered, "Oh that's bad saying that about your sister."
"Maybe, but true, and if anybody else had said it she'd have maimed them for life." That got her laughing. We told bad sister stories for a bit then dozed off.
___
I have to be the luckiest guy in the world, waking up with this beauty beside me. The little smile on her face when she's sleeping, seeing her move and stretch with the light sheen of her chocolate skin, her dark chocolate nipples moving just under the sheet, maybe one escaping forcing me to surround it with my lips to keep it warm. But not this morning, she just tucked herself in tighter under the covers so I slipped out and down to the kitchen. I did at least remember to put some clothes on since we weren't at home.
