Standing there her heart racing so loudly in her ears she wasn't sure if she was going to explode or faint from the shock of seeing the extremely large man filling the doorway. She'd heard and caught the reference to it being 'his' house so she knew this had to be Mr. Vaughn her aunt and uncle worked for but even that wasn't a huge help when she realized she was close to hyperventilating.

He saw the panic in her eyes immediately, she'd dropped the fabric she'd been holding her hands going to her throat the sound of gasping breathes filled the room, her mind immediately going to Sophie and Vince and if some how her being there would back lash against them since 'he' was now there. Pushing away from the door he crossed the room in just a few steps, wrapping his hand around the back of her neck pushing her head down, grabbing her other arm before she collapsed to the floor. Following her down, he knelt beside her feeling her body heaving and fighting for air.

"Try to hold your breath. I know easier said than done but put both hands over your mouth try to hold it then breath slower," he said meeting her eyes before she ducked her head trying to do as he said. His hand rubbed the back of her neck gently while she fought to gain control. Her pulse raced under his fingertips causing him to pull away from her as if he'd been burned but only for a second before remembering she needed some reassurance.

"There's no need to worry about Sophie and Vince they are well established and very secure in their place her with me," he said softly trying to comfort her as her thoughts continued to whirl around him frantically. He sensed the slamming of very strong blocks in her mind the minute he'd said that, looking down at her he didn't have time to think any more about it as he felt her body sagging, the lack of oxygen having taken it's toll quickly.

She closed her eyes when spots began dancing in front of them, forcing her mind to concentrate on what she was doing. It became easier to breath as the carbon dioxide built back up in her body.

Sitting up slowly, meeting his eyes that seemed to be totally black other than a deep brown ring that surrounded the huge pupils. She closed her eyes and gently shook her head when he smiled at her. For a minute she wished she'd fainted instead of this.

He'd sat back on his feet reluctantly taking his hand from the back of her neck when she'd looked at him, those huge amber eyes letting him know she'd be fine before they closed leaving him to marvel at the long lashes that brushed her cheeks.

"Mr. Vaughn," she stuttered, continuing to gain final control of her breathing. "I'm..."

He chuckled, "I know who you are now," he laughed when her eyes snapped open to meet his again. "Your aunt and uncle have pictures of you everywhere and I've heard stories about you from Sophie when ever I'm here," he told her, slowly standing holding his hand out to help her up.

She almost groaned out loud thinking of how Sophie could go on and on about everything she'd done. "I'm sorry I didn't have any idea you were here. Sophie told me you're never here," she said sitting down in a chair beside the table and sewing machine.

Caydn stepped back leaning against the book shelves, his arms crossed over his chest while he looked at her. "I'm not normally here. Neither Sophie nor Vince knows I'm in town now. I wanted to surprise them and visit Vince tomorrow evening and make sure everything that can be done is being done for him," he explained.

"I don't know if Sophie spoke to you about me being here or not?" she asked looking up, brushing her hair back from her face.

He nodded while looking at her, the huge eyes almost too big for her face giving her the look of a wild creature more than a young woman. In her eyes he could see her thoughts swirling, he could also hear random words that bantered around in her mind she wasn't even unaware of. He wondered if things had been that bad and the stress as real as she seemed to think it'd been as he looked at her closely. She looked gaunt, deep circles under her eyes made her seem extremely vulnerable.

"Yes, Sophie did call to ask if it was okay for you to move in here so you'd be closer to the city now that you've graduated," he assured her, "I said it'd be fine since I'm hardly ever here. I spend most of my time at my apartment in the city when I'm in town."

Her eyes dropped to her hands, nodding her thanks. "Yes this year's been stressful and the few before it but this move is just what I needed," she said not even realizing she was answering out loud the question she'd heard in her mind.

Caydn looked at her quickly before pushing away from the wall, stepping to the door. Glancing back he saw the puzzled look on her face also. She'd answered what he'd been thinking but never said, this was something he was not use to.

"Miss," he started, "What should I call you?" he laughed softly.

She stood up rubbing her hands down the front of her jeans almost self consciously realizing what a mess she really was after all the moving. "My name's Gabrielle Chordane, but most people call me Gypsy," she said taking a deep breath. "And thank you Mr. Vaughn this'll be a huge help for me, I'll also be able to help Sophie with Vince when he gets to come home."

He stopped at the door, "Caydn, you can call me Caydn. Mr. always makes me feel like someone's about to either lie to me, asking me for something or tell me something bad," he laughed. "Would you like to come down and have a drink since I almost scared you into cardiac arrest?" he asked raising one brow.

She stood at the window watching the lightning dance across the sky while he poured them each a brandy.

"You can't even hear the thunder the house is so solid," she said with a laugh turning to take the glass he offered her.

Caydn hesitated for a second, "I wonder if I should be asking if you're even old enough to drink before just giving it to you," he said slowly.

"Well that'd depend on what drinking age you've set here in your home," she laughed. "I was twenty seven on my last birthday," she took the glass when he handed it to her.

"I would've thought much younger since you not only just graduated but also because you look maybe sixteen or seventeen," he shook his head sitting down in a large over stuffed chair. "Sophie never mentioned 'how long in the tooth' you were to be a college graduate," he laughed when she flashed her eyes up to meet his.

She sat on the window seat fighting the urge to glare at him for the comment. "Yes you're right I'm not the average age for graduating but I doubt Sophie had a chance to regal you with the stories of how after my parents were killed, I took a few years off from school, spending that time studying art on my own in Italy and France before coming back and finishing my first degree in art and adding a minor in literature before deciding to go for a double degree. I've actually just graduated for the 'second time'," she emphasized, "this degree in fashion design and a minor in marketing," she finished firmly with a huff of pride.

He leaned back in the chair bringing one leg up to rest across his knee casually, hiding the stiffening bulge of his cock as he watched her closely. "I really must say I wasn't given the pleasure of that story," the laughter evident beneath the words. "I'll have to make it a point of asking Sophie to fill me in when she and Vince come home. The second part of my surprise to them is I'm planning on being here for the next few months while my apartment in the city is being redone and I have some business in this part of the world," he said smoothly, his mind accepting the knowledge that with her being around he was going to have to find some release or he was going to spend the next few months as a walking hard on.

Gypsy stiffened, her eyes moving up to meet his. "Well this might not be such a good time for me to be here then. She'll be busy with both you and Vince to take care of so I can begin looking for a rental tomorrow that way you can have your house and peace to yourself," she said standing, turning toward the kitchen. "If you'll excuse me I've had a long day and an eventful evening so I think I'm going to grab a quick shower and get some sleep so I can get busy first thing in the morning."

His lips twitched seeing the poker straight back but it died instantly seeing the flash of wounded pride and confusion in her eyes before she dropped them away from him.

"Gypsy this is now your home as well as it is for Sophie, Vince and myself there's no need in you finding some place else and making Sophie think I was the reason you didn't stay," he said gently wondering what'd hurt her so badly.

"Thank you Caydn and it doesn't hurt as bad as it once did," she said softly without thinking, walking out of the room toward the kitchen leaving him to stare where she'd been standing.

She'd spent the next few days unpacking and setting her room up. She'd been thankful Caydn wasn't anywhere around so she could explore the house getting her bearings without worrying about being in his way.

Sophie had called once they'd got Vince transferred and settled in his room to see how she was doing wandering around the huge house alone. She's sounded a little shocked that Caydn had showed up but if she thought it unusual she'd covered it quickly when Gypsy told her that she hadn't seen him since the day she'd moved in.

She was making a salad, when he walked into the kitchen she jumped not knowing he'd even been in the house.

"I'm sorry Gypsy it seems like I'm always scaring you," he said straightening the cuffs of his black jacket and pristine white dress shirt. "I have an engagement this evening I'm terribly sorry you'll be alone in this large empty house."

She almost snorted at his choice of words, the seductive tone in his voice when he mentioned having an 'engagement' she knew it had to be one of likely a dozen or so women he kept on the line with his looks. "Not a problem Caydn, remember I'm not here to be entertained. I've some designs to finish and fabric to begin cutting to make some samples of my work," she said taking her salad walking from the kitchen, leaving him chuckling when he easily read her thoughts. Shaking his head he wished he had some women to help ease the ache he was developing deep in his groin with her living in his house, but untouchable.

Staring at the empty doorway he debated following her upstairs to try and find out just what talents she did have but the gnawing sensation within him reminded him of the hunger he felt upon waking, he'd already delayed his departure listening to the thoughts rambling through her mind that seemed to be broadcast through out the large silent house.

Planning on making the evening as short as possible he smiled to himself walking to the door, her thoughts providing him with images of himself walking through a sea of women one or two hanging on each arm as sarcastic bits of scripted conversations danced around her mind. Shaking his head he chuckled, turning the kitchen light out, and closing the door behind him.

From her window she watched him walk to the large garage behind the house minutes later a black sports car pulled out the windows tinted almost as black as the body of the car. "Who would've thought Sophie and Vince kept this place up for a playboy," she laughed to herself before finishing her dinner and getting back to work.

Caydn walked through the crowd annoyed at all of the sounds and smells bombarding him, his mind still back at the house trying to unweave some of the oddities surrounding Gypsy and he wasn't paying enough attention to prevent his heightened senses from capturing everything around him.

The presentation had been over for some time, the crowd simply mingling and rubbing shoulders with those they thought could help advance their positions or line their pockets further. He was bored but at the same time had to focus and find what he needed before he could leave he'd denied himself entirely to long; walking toward the dance floor he began searching.

Walking among the group of people watching those who were dancing he fought the urge to ask a few of the women who were wearing such heavy over powering perfume if they thought it trendy to revive the habit of bathing in cologne as opposed to water in some sort of water conservation method he hadn't heard about. He smiled at the thought only to have it interpreted by the invitation by a few of the more overly powerful perfumed women to join them.

Grabbing the hand of a young woman standing alone sipping her drink he pulled her onto the dance floor. Seeing the shock on her face he winked, handing her glass to a passing waiter.

"I'm terribly sorry but I was in need of a great escape from those women who would make even those with the strongest of constitutions sneeze with their collective scents," he laughed guiding her across the floor into the crowd already dancing.

"No need to apologize," she chuckled, "I'm the secretarial assistant to one of their husbands and it's been my duty's been to shadow the entire group all evening, this is like a dream come true for me. Even though once I go back I'll sneeze for the next fifteen minutes," she laughed.

Caydn realized he'd found just what he was looking for. Carrying on a casual conversation about the presentation he dropped his voice as he spoke, the tones mesmerizing while they danced through the crowd near the balcony doors. Feeling the change in her body language he stepped through the flowing drapes pulling her out onto the balcony behind him.

Even though the doors were standing open to allow fresh air in, few ventured out onto the balcony with the intermittent down pours that'd been happening all evening. Stepping into the deep shadows that were relatively dry thanks to the overhead design and sculpture of the building he lowered his voice further assuring her she'd remember nothing other than how wonderful their conversation had been about the evening. As his mouth brushed her throat he chuckled adding she'd also not feel the urge to sneeze once she returned to her post as a wife watcher just as his incisors lengthened and sank deeply into her throat.

He stood on the balcony looking out over the city having satisfied his hunger sending her back to her duties before she was missed and reprimanded. He shook his head when a flash of a warm citrus scent and the vision of huge amber eyes danced across his mind and he felt his cock stiffen painfully just from the thought of her.

"Where in the hell did that come from?" he muttered to himself. Hearing the loud laughter of the party directly behind him, he groaned at the thought of having to go back in and say his good byes before he could head for the peace and quiet of his home, his goal for the evening almost accomplished thanks to the young woman he'd danced with, one need was satisfied, the other pushed back again.

Walking from the garage he paused noticing the light from the upstairs bathroom window. Shaking his head he dislodged the mental image of her lying back in the large tub filled with bubbles, the source of her citrus scent. Pushing hands into his jacket pockets he went in the house heading for the smaller den across from the stairs and living room.

Pouring a drink he sat in the dark listening to the rain pound down once again, trying not to think of the woman upstairs who seemed to keep invading his thoughts. He froze the glass halfway to his mouth when he heard a sing song humming coming from the kitchen.

She walked into the hallway taking a bite from the apple she'd grabbed, stopping suddenly when she heard a chuckle in her mind. Spinning on her heels she looked into the dark room knowing he was there even though for a moment she couldn't see him.

"Do you honestly think that every designer or for that matter any famous person spends all their time looking made to the eye balls?" she asked sarcastically her chin raising at the insulting statement that'd filtered into her mind, 'how could someone who dressed as if from a rag bag expect to be a fashion designer'. She'd had a hard time getting word for word with the loud crunching of the crisp apple she was eating.

"I assure you that when even the best designers were starting out they also wore little pieces of thread and fabric clippings stuck to their clothes," she punctuated the remark with another large bite of apple turning toward the stairs. "Now if you'll excuse me I've got water running."

Caydn couldn't hold back the laughter any longer but wanting to see how long she'd stand and talk to what most people would assume was an empty room. When she'd walked into view he smiled seeing her hair now pulled in pony tails each braided with a colorful scrape of fabric she'd no doubt been cutting since the ends were unraveling and uneven to say the least. Her sweat pants had each leg pulled up to just below her knees, her tee shirt a tie dyed explosion of color, all of which was decorated with thin strings of multicolored thread and the frayed ends she'd cut from some fabric.

Standing and walking to the archway he noticed her back stiffen climbing the stairs never looking back toward him.

"How do you do that?" he asked his tone casual waiting to see her reaction to his question.

Hesitating at the top of the stairs she glanced back at him. "How do I do what? Eat an apple?" she held the fruit up with a smile knowing exactly what he was asking her but doing everything possible to avoid answering. "It's rather easy, simply take a bite and chew." She met his eyes briefly before rushing into her room. "I've got to turn the water off before I'm responsible for flooding the rooms below mine," she said quickly.

He'd seen the discomfort flash in her eyes but it was nothing compared to the alarm that'd flashed in her mind. Climbing the stairs he laughed again seeing the area around the work table looking as if little pieces of thread had exploded, covering the area as well as her clothes. Walking into the room he took a seat in one of the large chairs, waiting until she stepped out of the bathroom. Gritting his teeth he wrestled the thoughts and images of her naked in the bath into submission so she wouldn't hear them.

She bite back a moan seeing him sitting there, knowing he wasn't one to be put off as easily as she'd hoped, she could feel the questions in his mind swirling as he watched her closely. She also felt a strange warmth flash through her when ever he was close. Taking a deep breath to calm herself she looked at him meeting his eyes.

"Caydn I'm sorry I was so rude but I've been working all evening and I'd really like to just take a bath and try and get some sleep," she said stepping through the double doors from her bedroom.

She'd spent years with people looking at her as if she were some kind of freak, all because for some reason she'd know what they were thinking if it pertained to her in someway. Her mother, Evelyn as she thought of her and called her, had turned white and backed away from her when she was nine and she'd unwittingly answered one of the questions she heard her mother thinking.

Evelyn had taken her to a series of doctors demanding they figure out what was wrong with her since she'd never been a normal child. For months she'd been monitored and wired so her thought patterns and brain waves could be recorded. Millions of questions had been asked repeatedly until she began reciting the answers as though reading a script. Finally she found if she didn't give them any information and kept to the same answers they'd lose interest one by one until the final doctor told her mother she had the ability to read someone's expression and there was nothing wrong or abnormal about her.

Once she got home and was able to finally be around her father again, who her mother had not allowed to visit her the whole time she was being 'cared for' she pulled even further from Evelyn knowing her acceptance would never happen.
