After another hour of yelling and tearful pleas, I left the house feeling both relieved and sad. I'd lost my marriage, probably lost two friends in the form of my former brother-in-law and father-in-law. Yet, at the same time, I was glad that I hadn't lost more. I hadn't lost love, just someone who clearly didn't love me anymore. It was the winter of my discontent that I'm still unclear how I managed to survive. I was clearly the Grinch that holiday season, drowning my frustration and anger in work and alcohol. My wife tried to talk to me and after being rebuffed numerous times, she ambushed me outside work one day. I locked myself in my car as she whined and cried whilst knocking on the window. I sighed and called my father-in-law who came and dragged her away. I knew refusing to talk to her wouldn't bring closure, so right after we'd rung in the New Year, I sat down with my father-in-law and ex-wife-to-be and talked. I was brutally honest. Despite looking and sounding like a bastard, it was effective, my ex-wife-to-be finally realised there was no way back for us and stopped dropping by. After the divorce was finalized, she moved out of state, according to my ex-father-in-law, who remains a friend though things were awkward for quite a while. However clichéd it seemed, life has its rhythms. Where an old way of life passed, there was simultaneously the spring of a new life. I had to learn how to let go of the past and live life as a single man again

So as we end this session of Straight Talk with my woeful tale, I'd like to wish all fans a great holiday season. May your days be merry and bright and a lot less dramatic than mine was last year. This is Michael Pellegrino signing out. Eat, drink and be happy!"

4 ****. Why not 5? Be ause although you referenced a final conversation, you did not let readers know what was said or not…just that hubby made it clear reconciliation was not happening.
