THE END
All I can say about your comment is that if you read the sequel, "No More Words", you may have a better idea on my true feelings about the men in the story.
I dream about being drugged or hypnotized and to not have to worry about making decisions because I may make the wrong one. To have a man mold me as he desires and makes every decision for me.
Never have I seen so many stories from insecure men who clearly cannot function in a world with real women--women with brains, talent, drive, ambition, self-esteem and, yes, beauty and sexuality. Those women are willing to share their true selves with good men, the kind who are not so intimidated by real women that they resort to the kind of misogynous idiocy that appears in these stories. Men, grow up!
Cynthia believes her husband is trying to kill her in the sense of eradicating her personality; she knows that a person will be walking around calling herself Cynthia afterwards, but "she" will be just as thoroughly and irrevocably gone as if she were dead.
Which may or may not be true, as you'll see if you read the sequel, "No More Words". :)
Hope that helps!
Very good pschological horror story a la Stepford Wives. I felt however there was a few loose ends. Why does Cynthia believe her 'husband' is trying to kill her? As later he seems to want to keep her and make her pregnant - so that angle doesn't quite work, although it is needed as motivation for her to go to the police. Pat's will power and mental faculties crumbled very quickly, a little more attempt to resist the brainwashing would made for a more convincing transformation. I also felt a bit more descripive writing, as he seduces Pat, would have been helpful, as I had trouble visualising what was happening. The erotica angle could also have been expanded more with a lengthier sex scene.
These quibbles aside, I really liked the story.
Recommended.
