Sex in a car wasn't Selena's idea of a romantic affair but it was at least releasing a lot of tensions and she was much easier to live with at home. Steve appreciated her new cheerful personality. So even though she felt badly treated she agreed to meet each time Oscar called.
In later Selena managed to keep Oscar slowed down enough that she was able to squeeze two orgasms in before once again he would turn his fire hose loose in her belly.
On occasion when Selena had a strong urge to strip naked and have sex she would give Oscar the $40 necessary to rent a room for one day. That was better than the full week she had been stiffed with before and worth the extra pleasure. Once in the motel room Oscar was willing to fuck all afternoon if she preferred. This routine continued for a little over three months when the bomb fell.
Just as Selena was becoming comfortable with their affair the biggest of Selena's fears were realized. She missed her period. Selena was stunned. The next day she called Oscar.
"Oscar, I thought you told me you had a vasectomy." It was a statement more than a question.
"Why would you think it's mine. It's bound to be your husband." Oscar defended.
"That's impossible Oscar, he has been checked by a doctor and told he has a very slim chance of fathering a child."
There was a silence on the other end of the phone. Finally Selena said.
"I want to talk to you Oscar."
"Sure come on up. I'm in the Raccoon Inn in Meredith." Oscar informed her.
"Wait for me. I'll be there in less than and hour." Selena responded.
On the drive up Selena wondered why she even wanted to talk to Oscar. She knew he had lied but with something this important she still wanted to confront him. She need not have bothered.
When no one answered her knock on the motel room door Selena thought she may have the wrong room. So Selena went to the desk and inquired which room Oscar was in. The desk clerk informed her that a taxi had picked Mr. Lockhart up about thirty minutes ago and he had not paid the bill. For some reason the clerk thought she had come to pay it. Selena informed him politely as possible that that wasn't the case and maybe she should call the police.
Selena drove off with the clerk standing in front of the motel still waving the motel bill for Oscar's room.
Selena knew that the next step would be a visit to the family doctor. It was the same one that had told Steve he had little chance of fathering a child. After that there would be nothing left but to tell Steve about the child. If she insisted it was his she expected Steve would demand a blood test.
She didn't know what his reaction would be but she braced herself for a divorce.
As expected the doctor confirmed she was pregnant and in a very detached manner ignored the fact he had previously told Steven he could not father a child. Selena left his office thankful for his professionalism. She still had to tell Steve and she was sure he would not be so understanding.
But Steve surprised her. After the initial shock Steve steadied himself and took on the supportive demeanor of any good future father. Selena never knew what he really thought but Steve was apparently ready to be the proud papa regardless of any qualms he might be harboring.
A little over nineteen years from that date Steve Newborn Junior, the son of the dentist Dr. Steve Newborn Senior and Selena Newborn lead the Red Creek Devils to the division II state football championship.
Epilog
Steve Newborn Junior went on to the state university on a football scholarship and had a relatively successful career, although not at quarterback. Today he is an assistant coach at a school in the southern part of the state.
Steve Newborn Senor is still practicing dentistry in Peaty. He has put on about 30 extra pounds, but otherwise is doing very well. He golfs, fishes and and follows Steve Juniors career.
Oscar Lockhart continued to surfaced around Red Creek from time to time. The last time was about six months ago when he showed up at his mother's funeral. He apparently didn't stay long but those that saw him said he looked about like he always did only a little older. Nobody seems to know what he is doing now if anything.
Selena Newborn is still married to Steve Senor. After Steve Junior was born Selena returned to school for a while and brought her teaching certificate up to date. When Steve Jr. started grammar school she took a job teaching English at at high school in Rutledge.
About three years later when still in her early thirties she had another affair. This time with one of the coaches at Rutledge High. If it had not been for this affair this story probably would have never been told. Selena confided her previous involvement with her new lover and when the affair broke up he developed diarrhea of the mouth. After the affair Selena's teaching contract was not renewed and she retired to being a full time wife and mother.
Shortly after Steve Junior left for college the gossip mills around Red Creek started grinding again about a reported indiscretion involving Selena. This time it centered around a New Years eve party that Steve Sr. and she had attended.
