"Oh, I think you can leave from her about 10:00am."

"What should we wear?" Sam asked.

"Pack a bag with your swimsuits and some towels but wear something comfortable like shorts and a halter top or t-shirt." Lieke told them. "Sam, you and Amy make sure you put on your sunscreen tonight and in the morning, you will burn at the top of the mountain in the thin air."

Dawn was clinging onto me going to sleep.

"Guys, Dawn is going to sleep, I think we will turn in."

I walked through the pool carrying my wife up the steps and into the house and up to bed. I walked out on the deck and saw that the girls had left the pool also; I listened carefully for Amy and Sam to go to their bedrooms. Once I knew they were in the shower I went back downstairs to find Lieke.

"Where you telling me that the helicopter is going to pick us up here?"

"Yes, it will land out there on the grass about 10:00."

"Everyone will be surprised by that. What else do you have planned?"

"After we are picked up we will fly up to the volcano and land, there is a place up there that only charters can land. It will be hot but I think everyone will like walking around and seeing all the lava flows. After that we will fly over the crater and around the mountain so we can see all the lava flows that will take about 2 hours."

"Then what?" I asked.

"We will fly to a spot near a river on my grandfather's farm and land and have a picnic with my family, when they found out about the charter they invited us to their picnic. The food will be the best you have ever had. After that I thought you all might just want to fly around the island for a few hours and see the rest of Maui, it looks spectacular from say maybe a mile up."

"I think Sam and Amy will like that, how about you?"

"I don't know about that. After that, we will refuel and fly to a beach that can only be reached by helicopter. It is a big beach surrounded by cliffs, you have to get there by boat or helicopter."

"Will we be alone?"

"No, grandfathers, it will be mine one day. We can stay there as long as you want then fly back to the house, taking the long way if you want."

"I'll make sure everyone is up early and ready to go," I said.

I turned to leave.

"I get a long break in January for the winter tourist season, could I come then?"

"Yes you can, just let me know when and I will make the arrangements."

"If is not snowing, there is a place in the mountains about 5 hours away we will go to, it usually snows there."

"Will Amy and Sam be there?"

"I'm not sure, Sam will be in school, she only gets a break at Christmas and they are coming back here you know. You may be stuck with Dawn and me."

"How long is your break?"

"Three weeks."

"Planning on staying all three weeks."

We started breakfast cooking hoping it would wake everyone up. By 7:45 the only other person up was Dawn. Dawn helped me finish getting breakfast ready while Lieke went and woke up the girls. The three of them came wandering into the kitchen a few minutes later.

"Why so early?" Sam asked.

"It's almost 8:00, you need to get cleaned up and ready for our tour of the island by 10:00. Eat breakfast and go get ready," I told them.

By 8:30 Dawn, Sam and Amy had headed back upstairs to shower to get ready. I had stopped at the store earlier and bought a bunch of film so I got all my camera gear loaded in my bag. I helped Lieke pack a smaller cooler with some ice and sodas. About 9:15 they had all returned from their showers dressed.

"Lieke are you going to go with us?" Amy asked.

"I am your tour guide, of course I am going."

"Let's help Lieke get the house cleaned up so she won't have to when we come back," I asked.

Everyone pitched in and helped collect laundry and started it, Dawn and I cleaned up the kitchen and the dishes. Once Dawn and I were finished I took Dawn out to the garden to lay in the shade while we waited on Lieke and the girls, it was about 9:45. Lieke, Sam and Amy came out and sat with us.

"We're ready," Sam said.

"Sit for a minute, we're in no rush," I told them.

They all sat down, Lieke reminded them about their sunscreen, Sam and Amy said they had put it on after they showered. We had been sitting there about 10 minutes when I heard the far off thumping of a helicopter. About 2 minutes later a red helicopter buzzed the house just a few hundred feet above us.
