The smile on her lips widened. "I'll bring you back a can of Pepsi, okay?"

Instead of immediately walking out into the hallway, Claudia cracked the door to check for any sounds of activity. But after hearing the loud snores which drifted from beyond her mother's closed bedroom door, she realized that she was definitely in the clear. She was only able to put one foot across the threshold, however, before Lucas softly called out to her.

"No kiss before you leave?"

"We just had a kiss a few minutes ago."

Now grinning, Claudia started toward the bed. "Oh stop, you're being silly."

"So long as I can make you smile, I'll be any way you want."

As she leaned over the bed to kiss him, his nose bumped against hers and they shared a light chuckle. But soon their lips were sealed, tongues clashing briefly as they shared an open mouthed kiss. If she hadn't been so damn thirsty she would have gladly forgone her trip to the kitchen, but the thought of a nice cold Pepsi was too enticing to resist.

With the taste of him sill on her lips she pulled back and started for the bedroom door, but before she could move out of reach, he captured her palm in his.

"Hey..."

Noting the urgency in his voice, she threw a look over her shoulder. "Yes?"

"I love you."

Her heart nearly stopped at the sound of the words, a fuzziness clouding her mind as she temporarily forgot how to string words together to make sentences. She couldn't believe he had actually said it, and for a moment she began to wonder if she wasn't just in a dream. But this was real, and it was happening, and she was going to say the words back because she felt them deep in her heart.

"I love you too, baby."

Reluctantly, she released her hand from his, then headed away from the bed and toward the bedroom door. But as she turned her head to look back at him, she couldn't help noticing that he was watching her in a very deep way.
