"Look, just let Kimi by so we can get out of here, alright? We don't have time for this, we need to get on the road."
"Oh, right." Andy slowly nodded, then shifted his gaze to his daughter. "Heading off to university, huh Kimi? Gonna be a big shot and get an education."
"That's right," Tristan replied. "And there's nothing you can do to stop it."
Feeling the anger that was radiating off Andy, Tristan knew he had to act quick, so he shifted his gaze to Claudia and Kimi before speaking a few words.
"Kimi, Claudia, head out to the car. I'll be right behind you with Tyler."
Not wasting a second to respond, Kimi and Claudia started forward, walking past Andy so they could exit the bedroom. But then Andy's hand suddenly reached out, grabbing Kimi's hair so she was yanked backwards. She screamed as he flung her aside, where she fell against the dresser and hit her head.
Shifting his stance so that his arm was extended, Tristan unleased his power towards Andy. The bolt of energy he discharged had the power and speed of a lightning bolt, knocking Andy off his feet and into the wall behind him.
Like a speed train carrying chaos on a track, Tristan was unrestrainable. Andy didn't have time to react before Tristan unleashed another energy surge, but this time it was directed towards Andy's throat, which began to constrict under a chokehold.
His eyes narrowed as he glared at Andy, but in his mind he was envisioning a giant hand that had wrapped itself around Andy's throat. Gasping for air, Andy lifted his hands to his throat, as if hoping to ward off the choking sensation. But Tristan wasn't letting up, and as seconds passed, he began to wonder if he shouldn't just finish the job.
Concentrating intensely, he continued to throttle Andy, but then suddenly he eased up on his power, and Andy's windpipe once again opened.
"You hurt Kimi, Tyler or their mother again, and I will kill you." Tristan's eyes flashed as he said it, nostrils flaring as he reduced his power.
"You little bastard." Andy choked on his words, giving a harsh cough before sputtering out, "You're a freak! I always knew there was something wrong with you."
Depleted of energy, Tristan knew that time was time of the essence, so he shifted his attention to Kimi, who was still on the floor and being cradled in her mother's arms. Allowing his gaze to rest on Kimi's mother, Tristan saw that her eyes had bugged out. He couldn't tell if she was looking at him in awe or fright, or perhaps a mixture of both, but it didn't really matter because they needed to leave, and to do it immediately.
"Come with us, Sylvia," Tristan said. "It's not safe for you here. You need to be in a protected environment."
Clearly hesitant to follow his suggestion, Sylvia remained on her knees, holding Kimi against her chest as she eyed Tristan warily.
"Please," Tristan begged. "We have to get out of here now. You'll be safe at my parents house. They'll look after you and Tyler, I promise."
Perhaps spurred by the urgency in Tristan's voice, both Sylvie and Kimi rose to their feet, and with Claudia by their side, hurried out of the room. Tyler, who had watched on with satisfaction, gazed down at his father who was still on the floor. Then turning his attention to Tristan, he stared wide eyed, as if in a daze.
"Let's get out of here, Tyler," Tristan hurriedly said, and with Tyler following behind him, they both left the bedroom and made a dash for the front door.
By the time they reached the car, the three women were already inside, seated together in the back and holding hands in a gesture of camaraderie. Tyler slid into the passenger's seat and Tristan got behind the wheel, and after putting the car into gear, Tristan stepped on the gas. The Lincoln Continental tore off, speeding down the unpaved road.
