So he spent the night sleeping in his car in the garage.
Bill was up at the crack of dawn, never really sleeping. He made coffee and sat with his head in his hands at the kitchen table. Mid morning he heard the shower running in the master bedroom, later Sally shuffled in wearing an oversized terry cloth robe. In a word she looked like hell.
When she saw Bill sitting at the kitchen table, looking like the beaten man he was, she began to cry. She didn't know what to say. She couldn't even remember most of the night before, but from what she saw when she showed and how brused her body felt she knew it was terrible. And she knew Bill had seen it all.
Bill looked at her, a tear running down his face. He simply said, "I don't think we should talk now. I can't handle it and I don't think you are up to it."
He went into the garage and puttered with his tools all day. Bill periodically looked into the house letting Sally clean up the mess. At least she cried as she vacuumed up her pubic hair from the living room carpet he noted to himself.
