She blushed slightly, "Oh. Yeah. I guess not."
"And you were gone when I woke up this morning."
"I had that early meeting."
"See," I said, smiling at her. "It was all your fault."
She smiled back. I'd never get tired of that.
"Last night and this morning maybe," she said. "You could have said something earlier tonight."
"Well . . . yes. But under the circumstances it didn't seem all that important to bring it up right away. I was hoping I'd have all night to get to it."
Another smile. "We really do need to work on our communication. Especially the part where you stumbled over your syntax a minute ago." She had noticed. "You want to try that sentence again?"
"Now?" I asked.
"Now," she replied. "Well . . . as soon as we get to my place. Or yours. It's closer."
