The words didn't so much as sink into Nancy's eardrums, but stabbed and skewered them cruelly as she winced under the matter of fact tone her Daughter's reply.
As distraught as she was hearing Lacy's answer, it was nothing compared to the black blur of Shawn's body sweeping across her field of vision when he heard what his girlfriend had to say, not to mention the jagged symphony of screams that soon followed.

Lacy had taken the money from her Mom's closet and used it to have an abortion. While it took Nancy more than a few seconds to start digesting what her Daughter admitted, Shawn's reaction was much quicker.
"A couple of weeks ago when I told you I was pregnant..you wouldn't even claim it as yours....then you go off and start fucking my Mom behind my back..I wasn't about to bring a kid into this fucked up world!!" Lacy spat her vitriol at Shawn, neither taking any notice as Nancy slinked away and started back down the steps.
Feeling as if she'd become a wayward spacecraft breaking apart upon re-entering Earth's atmosphere, Nancy gripped the handrail tight until she was back down in the living room.
Absently searching for her keys, once she found them Nancy walked back out the front door, the echo of the two kids arguing continuing to flare from the upstairs bathroom.
There was only one person who Nancy knew that had any chance of fixing the shape she was in, and Hell or high water weren't about to stop her. More than anything at that moment, she needed to see Pastor Grady.....

Stardog Championalmost 14 years agoAuthorThe only 'envy' here comes from a small cadre of urchins who wake up before the crack of dawn everyday to religeously spew their hate and fear. I've done tons of stories in this, as well as many other genres. I could have easily erased all the negativity but I think its more important to let the ignorance of a small percentage of humanity to show through, just to remind the rest of us that have evolved whats still lurking in the shadows out there.
