She was free, finally free. At least we didn't have to email in code. We didn't have to use double entendre messages in twitter and face book.
She is no beauty queen as I am no more a hunk or stud. But over the years think and thin, our friendship endured. Oh we got jealous of the chat room flirting that we did with other chatters. It even tore us apart for a bit.
Eventually however we came back together. Call it whatever you want to call it. But ours is a friendship that has lasted more the 10 years. We had seen chat couples come and go.
And now it was finally all coming to real life. I took a red eye to the west coast and tried to sleep as much as possible in those cramped coach seats.
When the plane landed somewhere around 3 A.M... I went to the claim area and picked up my duffel bag and then found the shuttle to the rental car agency. I made sure that it had a GPS in it. I stored my gear in the trunk and got inside the car. I plugged in the address I wanted, turned it on, put the ford Focus in gear and pulled out of the lot.
The droning voice almost put me to sleep along with the windshield wipers beating to a good rhythm
"Turn left, blah blah blah!" The GPS voice droned on and on.
I so wanted to turn the radio on, but it might drown out the voice, so I shook off my sleepiness and endure the next few miles.
I got to my hotel and checked in , I drop my own bags up to the 7th floor and unpacked everything into the bureau drawers
Once I got everything put away I went and took a quick shower and took a brief nap. I checked the clock radio and saw it read 10 AM. I knew that she might be up by now.
I plugged my laptop into the wifi connection and turned it on. I logged onto my internal messenger, I saw her little green tag was on. I wrote and told her that I had arrived. She asked me where I was. I told her what hotel. She wrote and told me where to meet for breakfast. Of things went right, my true love would be in my arms within the hour.
I did a quick shave, a quick shower. Hopping out of the shower and drying off I rubbed my wet head and went to the closet and pulled out a nice shirt. It had some wrinkles on it, but that was cured by turning on the shower, letting the steam get it. After it was good and humid, I took it and placed it on the credenza. I want the rooms Gideon bible over it to smooth.
I had selected a pair of tan khaki's to go with the blue dress shirt. I put on my white boxers and blue socks.
Glancing at the clock I saw it had been half an hour. I slipped on my clothes and my black new balance sneakers. In my pockets went my wallet and room card.
Walking out of the room, I strolled down the hall and took the elevator down to the lobby. I inquired at the front desk where the diner was. She handed me a local map and highlighted the route I should take. It wasn't far and would only take 10 minutes. Thanking her, I set off on my journey.
The diner was quite easy to find and I walked in, she hadn't arrived yet. I went back outside and waited. A car alarm clicking on next to me startled me a little. I looked over and there she was. A sly grin appeared on her face.
"Scared you did I?" She laughed her throaty laugh.
"Not at all love!" I said.
She came closer and hugged me.
"Mmm, so good to finally met you in the flesh!"
She whispered in my ear.
"Back at you baby!" I said as I planted a kiss on her soft cheek.
"Shall we?" She said "I am a starving Marvin!"
I held the door open for her as we went inside and sat down at a booth. She ordered a stack of pancakes; I ordered the French toast. We sat and sipped out beverages; a big old Mocha Latte for her, cranberry juice for me. We took our time eating our meals
After we done we sat for quite awhile and just got reconnected. I found myself leaning on one hand just listening to her. She looked so lovely in her peach blouse and blue jeans. Her brown hair touching the collar of her shirt
The Lunch crowd started filtering in, and we had to leave as it was getting packed. We walked back over to her car.
"Anywhere you want to go?" She asked me.
"Well I would like to see the space needle, the fish market; and dip my toe in the Pacific Ocean!" I said.
She took me to the space needle and even showed me the Hammering man art work outside the Seattle art museum.
We ended our perfect first date on the pier of Puget Sound, we bought some Woodchuck cider and walked along the beach.
I popped the tops off the bottles, we then clinked the bottles together.
"Here is to New Beginnings!" I toasted her as we watched the sun set over the sound!
