"It's just us now." he stated simply and there were no more worries.
"Get in, lover." she said with a smile so pure and radiant no one would ever dare doubt their love if they were to see it.
Liam fell asleep not long after they returned to the open road. Maggie went slowly, keeping her high beams on the dark and icy nighttime road. After about 90 minutes of driving he began to fidget in his sleep. After another 30 minutes of waking and fidgeting, trying to find a comfortable position for his aches and pains, Maggie began to lose her patience with him.
"Do I need to take you to a doctor?"
"No." he grumbled, shifting some more.
"Do you feel as though you need to see a doctor?"
"No!"
"Do I need to knock you out, giving you a concussion and drag your stubborn ass to the ER?"
He laughed despite his annoyance and playfully swatted at her. Liam's grimace of pain as he overstepped his reach was all the proof she needed that he should see a doctor. But he wouldn't give in, insisting he's suffered through worse. She didn't doubt it. Finally after about 30 minutes of probing, Margaret dropped the subject.
The next two hours or so were passed in companionable silence. Every now and then, out of the corner of her eye, she would see him looking at her with a fuzzy, delirious smile painting his face. Even though he looked like a bruised piece of meat...she had never seen him so peaceful or stress free than those hours in the car, driving to Portland. An idea struck her, but Maggie put it aside, leaving it until they arrived at the hotel.
About three hours in they stopped in a small town to grab some pizza and soda for nourishment. Liam hid his pain well, 'not wanting anyone to think that Maggie beat him up or anything' as he jokingly claimed to her questioning glances. They sat next to each other in the booth instead of on either side. They had crossed the Oregon border about an hour ago and were enjoying the thawing process cuddling next to one another and the simple bliss of not needing to hide their relationship.
The first time Liam kissed Maggie in public, it had been as natural as breathing. They were leaning against the counter, waiting for their pizza to finish heating up and joking around about how he looked like shit.
"Oh thanks sweet pea." He said sarcastically, a devilish grin on his face.
"Hey, I'm just being honest. Where would we be without honesty?" the teenager at the registrar displayed her female camaraderie with Maggie by nodding and 'mm-hhmm'-ing in agreement.
"Well in that case-" Liam leaned in close and pressed his lips to hers, murmuring against them "You need a shower, love. You're beginning to smell a bit ripe." He claimed her lips in a laughing and playful kiss.
When they pulled away from each other the teenager was laughing along with them. "You two are a cute couple." She said as she sighed dramatically, handing them their food and sodas.
"Thanks." Maggie laughed, taking the tray and winking at Liam. It wasn't until they were sitting down next to each other in the booth, devouring their second slices of pizza when it hit them.
A couple. They were out in public, as a couple, and someone thought they were cute together. Someone thought they looked as though they were meant to be in a relationship with each other. Who knew that affirmation of their relationship would come from some teenage girl working the register at a pizza parlor in nowhere, Oregon?
After re-fueling, their bodies and the car, they headed north once more. The arrival in Portland was uneventful. They checked into a semi-crappy motel as neither had the energy nor the funds to live it up in luxury for the night.
Maggie wanted Liam to take a couple days and rest but he insisted he would be fine to continue on in the morning if Maggie didn't mind driving the rest of the way to Seattle. She acquiesced after a little bugging on his part.
Liam fell asleep pretty soon after hitting the sack and Maggie dove for her IPAD, researching if the surprise she wanted to give Liam was even possible. Turns out it was, if she wanted to drive for 2 days and 1 hour straight.
She estimated it would be best if they tried to make the drive from Seattle to Anchorage, AK in 5 to 7 days. It would be an adventure. It would give them some time to just be together, no family judging them or old town friends to worry about. They could just be a couple. Which was something she was a little anxious about to be honest. Did she even know how to be in a relationship?
Maggie wrote Liam a quick note and scooted out of the hotel room to find some food for when Liam woke up. She came a across a Chipotle which was a good old standby. After that her car passed a little off the wall, out of the way donut shop. The names of the donuts were somewhat hilarious and she had to partake in a few...or twelve. She justified it that Liam loved donuts and would appreciate donuts that were combined with raunchy humor.
He was awake when she returned...with her IPAD wide open to the Google maps page of the route to Alaska. She may have been mistaken as the light in the motel room wasn't very good, but she was pretty sure she saw a tear in his eye and a blush for that fact on his cheeks.
"Maggie..." he huffed, running his fingers through his hair. "I don't even know what to say to you. I thought we were going to hang out in Seattle for a while..."
"Why?" She put the food bags down and sat across from him on the bed, disrobing from her layers upon layers of winter clothing. "I mean, don't get me wrong Seattle is my dream home but...why can't we just go straight to our actual home?"
"Our actual home?" he repeated
"You're not getting rid of me, and you seem pretty hung up on Alaska, so it's my home too. That is...if you'll have me." She shrugged trying to make her laying of her soul on the proverbial line as nonchalant as possible.
He grabbed her wrist and pulled her body in tight to his, they landed on their sides, facing one another, holding hands, kissing.
"You're mine. I'm yours." He laughed, finally allowing himself to believe that this was going to happen. This life he had dreamt of since realizing his feelings for his sister all those years ago was unraveling in front of his eyes. Here she was. The most beautiful woman he had ever known and she was his.
"Promise me one thing?" she asked, nuzzling her nose to his.
"What?" He asked, knowing that he would give her the world if she so demanded it of him at that moment.
"We won't cut Madge and William off. We'll give them some time to come to terms with what is happening and if they haven't tried to contact us, we'll contact them." She kissed his lips, softening the request. "Please, Liam?"
He nodded. "Okay, I'm not too keen on getting the shit kicked out of me once again but...I don't want to give up on them easily either." He kissed her forehead, not able to keep the glee he was feeling to himself.
Maggie pushed him onto his back, undressing him slowly and running her lips over every inch of skin available to her. She gentled her touches over his ribs, all too keenly aware of the awful bruises forming on his skin.
She undressed and straddled him, rubbing the tip of his erection against the hot cream of her core. Before sheathing him with her body she leaned over and kissed her brother.
"I love you." she murmured, taking him inside her.
"Always, sister." He smiled up at her and she knew it was truth.
The End.
