Zyra sighed.

So she knew where she was, how had she gotten there?

She took a deep breath trying to remember the events that had led up to here. What had happened?

Bitterness...water...darkness and...yellow eyes.

Yes, she had fallen into the stream. Looking down she realized she was naked. Her clothes were nowhere to be found. Frowning she bent to stand.

"Don't move."

She froze and turned in the direction of the voice. There in the corner, sitting by a small pit was Kail. They had not spoken since that day.

His eyes looked slightly beneath her and she followed his gaze. Her breasts were above the fur He could see the womanly curve of her them, the dark peak of her nipples. She snatched the fur up against her and looked down in embarrassment. She wanted to scream at him for watching her indecency and saying nothing, but how could she?

She had watched him bathing. She had seen all of him, and now he had probably seen all of her.

Now, they were even.

When her courage returned to her she looked up at him. He was carving a case of some sort. She watched Kail take his tiny flint knife and wedge out a curl. She couldn't help by admire the precision and gentleness that he used to make the wood yield to his firm touch. He paused then, pursed his lips and blew the wood. Flecks of dust settled in the air, raining down in a soft shimmery mantle before disappearing.

She stared at his mouth, admiring the fullness of his lips and she shivered and pulled the fur closer to herself. Then she felt Kail's eyes on her. She looked up and swallowed hard. Zyra had never expected to be so startled by his gaze. He was attentive, as usual, but he was also stiff, rigid as though he would jump into action at any moment. But what was that action?

She swallowed again, feeling small in his looming presence.

"Why did you take off my under things?" she croaked warily. She let out a cough to clear her throat.

His honeyed eyes remained fixed upon her, his face stoic. "They were wet."

She nodded and averted her gaze. She didn't need to ask him the obvious question. He had saved her. That was why she was in his dwelling, lying in his furs, in his part of the forest.

Zyra didn't know how to react. After all she had said, he had saved her.

Her twiddling fingers became extremely interesting and she stared at them earnestly.

"Are my clothes dry?"

He didn't answer her at first, seeming too busy searching for something he could get by drilling holes into her skin. When he did reply, it was as though it had taken him great effort to do so.

"...no."

"Where are they now?"

"Outside."

"May I have them?"

No response. She could hear nothing but the chirps of night insects and the thumping of her frantic heart. Panic began to well inside of her as conflicting emotions fought for precedence inside the silence. Kyzu's warnings, her bitter hatred and love for her had magnified her fears.

Her body was simple minded. She could ignore the tightening in her chest that was neither good nor bad, but she could not ignore that it was exclusively caused by the ogre. She wanted the comfort that Ginger had spoken about. She wanted that love, but in her current state she feared it would destroy her.

Kyzu was whispering in her ear, lying in wait behind her eyelids, making her reality a nightmare as she lay, naked and wanting inside the ogre's clutches. When she looked up at him she knew his eyes had never left her.

He was watching her with Hanto's look, the predator eying its prey. Yet Hanto could never hope to compare to Kail's intensity. Kail was eyeing her like she was the last morsel of food in the entire world.

And he was hungry.

"Kail, may I please have them?" she asked again, her voice squeaking nervously.

His body stiffened even more if possible and she diverted her gaze again. She couldn't stand looking into those horrible probing yellow eyes. She didn't like how it seemed as though he could read her mind, and said nothing so his silence would taunt her.

He did not reply, and he was closest to the door.

Looking down she wrapped a fur tightly around her body and pushed the rest away from her. She was about to stand when he spoke.

"Stop. Don't move."

His voice was deep, thick with authority as though he was her caretaker and not the opposite. Her lips thinned into a disgruntled frown and she was about to protest when she heard him shift. Before she knew it he was walking towards her.

Her eyes refused to budge from her fists, clenched with the furs that she held tightly to herself. Concentration alone kept her from shaking. Kail's finger pressed under her chin, his finger nail poking threateningly into her neck. He tilted her head up to face him, but she looked to the side.

"Why won't you look at me?" he whispered.

The rasp of his words was like a tongue flicking in her ear.

He grabbed her by her chin and tried to position her face to meet his eyes, but she kept moving. She could feel the tension growing as he became more and more furious with her.

"Are you angry that you failed?" he asked darkly. "Were you trying to kill yourself?"

She had to look into his eyes to see if he was serious. He was.

"No! I would never— it was an accident..."

"Then why were you out so late? By yourself when the moon was full?"

She blinked in shock. He actually believed she was trying to kill herself?

"Why didn't you swim back to shore?"

"I wasn't strong enough," she admitted. "I..."

"You saw me and you jumped."

She looked at him again. Behind that mask of stolid security she could sense that he was hurt. Genuinely and deeply hurt.

She could understand too, how bad it must feel to have someone wish to die because of you. What an awful thought.

"I fell in," she said firmly. His hand dropped from her face and he turned from her.

"Hey!" she reached out and turned his face now.

Her palm was cold compared to the warm soft heat he radiated.

"I fell in," she repeated.

He reviewed her, looking for signs of deceit, betraying himself to the weakness of hope. Then he put his hand over hers. Letting out a sigh, he closed his eyes for a moment and leaned into her hand.

She was uncomfortable.

She didn't like this action, didn't like how he trapped her hand with his own. Would it be wrong to tell him to back up? To let go, when she was supposed to be comforting him?

Zyra wasn't sure what to say, sure what to do, but it seemed she didn't need to. Kail's eyes opened and his grip on her hand tightened.

"Then why are you so scared?"

Her fears came back to her now that he had a firm grip on her. She wanted nothing more than to rip her hand out of his grasp and run as fast as she could. But, would he let her?

"..."

She opened her mouth to tell him the truth. That she wasn't ready to lose the only thing she had found precious. That she could not let him take away what could never be replaced. That Kyzu had said...

"What did she say to you?"

His voice was filled with such hatred that she wondered if he was really talking about a member of the village, let alone Kyzu. His grip on her hand tightened and she let out a weak gasp as he pulled her closer to his face.

"What did she say about me? What did she do to you?"

Her mouth felt glued and she had to put forth effort to speak.

"W-who are you..."

"Kyzu. Your sister." He had growled her name. Her heart skipped a few beats and she wondered if he would kill Kysu if she told him.

"Nothing," she breathed.

"Liar!"

He leaned in closer to her face.

"Your body is tainted with the smell and color of fear."

She jerked her arm and pushed his chest.

"Kail you're hurting me."

He released her like he had touched fire and she held her wrist, trying to look for damage that wasn't there.

"I'm not hurting you, I'm scaring you," he stated dully. Her heart pounded rapidly as evidence. He lowered his voice, in an attempt to be calming.

"Is that what she told you? That I would hurt you? That I had tried to hurt her?"

Kyzu had said something like that, but she knew she was lying. No, what had given her fear was the truth of Kyzu's words. In the end, she had said the truth to make her hurt worse.

"No Kail...thank you for saving me," Zyra exclaimed mechanically. She was just so worn down by all of this. She just wanted it to be over. She stood shakily, staring at her toes. She bowed to him and proceeded to walk outside of the dwelling.

Before she could make two steps she felt a snag on the fur. Looking back she saw Kail with his fist wrapped around the end of it.

"You didn't answer my question," he said, his eyes narrowing. His body was quaking with the effort it took not to simply slam her against the wall and stab into her, protesting or not.

Zyra could see the madness in his eyes. The threat on her only shred of clothing sent her heart racing faster.

"Please Kail, let me just get..."

"Why are you begging me?" he asked quizzically. "Why aren't you demanding that I let it go? Why aren't you fighting me?"

She tugged it against him, but she made no progress. She could not successfully force it from him without losing her decency.

"I don't feel like it," she snapped getting frustrated. "I'm tired."

"Then stop fighting," Kail said pulling harder on the fur.

"Stop fighting me Zyra. The truth is you don't want to fight. I have something that you desire. Don't run away from this. Don't run from me. "

He gave the fur a pull that made her feet slide along his tarp floor. She gritted her teeth and shrieked at him.

"KAIL! THIS IS NOT A GAME! STOP IT."

His golden eyes raked a trail down her body before he huskily replied, "I am not playing Zyra. I'm done with games."

The meaning of his words sunk deep within her, pushing her fears to the forefront of her mind.

"Kail ..."

"You know I still want you, right?"

He pulled the fur again, bringing her closer and more desperate with each tug.

"You know that despite all your sisters' interests they were only interested in what they could get out of me."

"Kail, I don't know where this is going."

"I knew this, and I really didn't care because I figured I could make it worth my while. But did you know, dear Zyra. That things changed?"

Her eyes widened as he looked upon her with an admiring fondness she found odd.

"When you refused me, when you told me that you never wanted to hear my voice, and when your sisters turned against you, things changed. I thought I could leave you be. I really, honestly tried to leave you be."

His lips parted and she shook as he gave her a sharp evil looking smile.

"But I don't want you anymore Zyra," he stated.

"I need you."

It became a standstill, both of their attention locked on the other. Hearts thumped against chests and desires clashed for different reasons.

"Kail I don't understand," she said quietly.

The smile widened.

"Then let me help you. What I'm saying is this. I'm going to fuck you. Tonight. Now if possible. And if you try to run from me, I will catch you."

Her jaw dropped and she shook her head in horror.

"Kail, no..."

"Yes Zyra.Yes."

All was silent.

Then Zyra abandoned the fur and began to run.

This is really good so far!

Im really enjoying the story so far, and I'm not sure if its the best that she is running but it makes it feel like a final boss fight with her biggest fear so I think its going in a good direction. I'm anticipating what happens after for sure 💜
