She was fortunate that security was so lax in the castle, but then, King Connor had taken it with help from the inside. Having been greeted as a liberator, there hadn't been any need to heavy security, at least, not until now. Susannah was nearly out of breath by the time she made it to the servant's quarters as she was walking so fast it was almost a jog. As passed through the kitchen, she heard the great cry of alarm over the fire erupt behind her. She dashed through the servant's entrance, which had never been bricked over since there wasn't a siege. It closed behind her not a moment too soon, as she could hear the servants rising from bed and rushing to help combat the fire.
Susannah hugged the wall surrounding the castle as she made her way towards the gate. The plan was going as expected, and the guards on duty were running up towards the keep. She darted through the gate as fast as she could manage. As she crossed the drawbridge, she heard a voice cry out.
"You there, stop!"
She ran faster, and some sixth sense made her dart to the left, just in time to avoid the arrow whistling through the air towards her. Her heart leapt to her throat as she fled into the city. She hoped that the guard who spotted her wouldn't be heard over the din of the firefighters. Even though she was running as fast as she could, fear made her feel like she was running with lead boots on, and that every step she took was too slow and too loud.
Tristan was waiting for her several streets down from the market place. He threw a long, hooded cloak at her and helped her climb atop a horse. "Come Your Grace, we must leave before they seal the city."
"Yes, we have to hurry. They spotted me as I left the castle."
"They saw you?" Tristan sighed. "Very well, come on, no time to lose."
"Where are we going? Where will you hide me?"
"We're off to one of the raider camps. Congratulations, Your Grace, you'd just joined the resistance."
