Ransom Ch. 05

"Bastards." Paul muttered. "Did you get any information on them? The bike rego came up blank, but if you picked up on anything else we could ID them from..."

"Paul!" Nathan growled at his brother, "She's just got home for Christ's sake; don't push her."

"No it's fine," Kailee brushed Nathan's sympathy aside. "In fact, I know their first names and I can describe what they look like."

Paul snorted. "They didn't even cover their faces? Idiots! When we track them down I'm going to murder them."

"You and me both," Nathan said darkly.

Kailee wasn't entirely sure if that's what she wanted. Could she condemn someone like Jakob to such a thing?

"So what are their names?" Paul prompted, eager for information.

"Well," Kailee began, "there was an older man called Alan..." she was content to condemn that man to hell. "...a man named Jakob who looked to be in his early thirties," Sorry, Jake. "and...ah...the leader. He was Russian..." she could still hear her name accented on the tip of his tongue, "Dominic."

"Dominic?" Nathan's eyes narrowed ever so slightly.

"Idiots," Paul muttered again, "They'll be in jail by tomorrow."

"Did you say Russian?" Nathan asked. Kailee nodded.

"Doesn't matter what nationality he is; he's fucked. Mira, hand me the phone, would you?"

Mira reached over for the handset, but Nathan grabbed hold of her wrist before she had the chance to pick it up.

"No." Nathan closed his eyes and sighed deeply. "Forget it. We're not going after them."
