Razor Ch. 05

In just a few hours we'd been able to dig out several disturbing pictures of the missing women. After seeing Samuels reactions to the pictures, he was still a gentle soul it seemed, I decided we needed to take a break and get some sleep. I made sure he walked away from his computers, and all but put him to bed before I walked away from his apartment, my body flooded with feelings, my mind storming with thoughts.

When I got back home I pulled my phone out of my back pocket and dialed a number I hadn't thought I'd ever use, but after talking to Samuel I realized I had to try to talk to William at least one more time. And after seeing the pictures, feeling the pain in them I realized I needed Williams calm and comfort more than I had ever needed it.

"William? Mr Anderson, I mean..." I said, almost not recognizing my own voice "it's Mary, Mary Watson. I... I'm sorry for calling... oh shit, is that the time? Sorry for that too! I promised myself that I wouldn't call, that I would respect your wish to keep me at a safe distance. If I were you I'd do it to... but the thing is, something really bad has happened, and I need to make things right... and I'm afraid... I'm afraid I won't manage it on my own. Could I please have one or two more hours of your time?"

"Okay," he answered softly "tomorrow, same time as usual."

"Thank you" I whispered and ended the call.

It had been a truly strange day, and I was grateful that it was finally at an end. I walked into my bedroom and sank down in the corner of the room, back safely pressed against the wall, arms hugging my legs, eyes kept open, looking for signs of movement, ready to act on any sign of intrusion. There would be no sleeping that night, that was for certain.
