Rebirth of a Hero? Ch. 04

"Yes I do, I can't keep something like this a secret as it can affect the world's safety. You are far too powerful not to be brought into a kingdoms fold," Navia said as she looked flustered and started to tap her chin thinking.

"I don't want to be tied down by anything. I NEED to stay neutral," Nataly said as she slowly raised her attraction meter to twenty percent.

Navia closed her eyes and grumbled, "Trying to persuade me with magic? Really?" as a pendant around her neck glowed a slight pink colour.

"I was, but only because I cannot swear myself to any race or kingdom. It will not go well for anyone," Nataly said as Val stepped close and watched Navia closely.

"The human kingdom is the only kingdom without heroes. The other kingdoms have two to four, even the demon kingdom has heroes," Navia said as she went to a nearby desk and sat behind it.

Nataly sigh and walked up to the desk, "Why do you want me to join the Human kingdom so badly?"

Navia sighed heavily and rested her head in her hands, "In the past five seasons there has been an increase in attacks on all races and kingdoms. No one knows who they are or what they want, but after every attack the bodies of victims are taken and in the next attack it's the victims from the previous one. They are brought back by necromancy and attack everything. But the worst part is that they also use beasts, and powerful ones at that." Navia said looking up at Nataly with fear, "They cannot be stopped nor can they be predicted."

"So why do you need me to join the human kingdom?" Nataly said sounding a bit nervous at the description of a large undead beast army.

"Because we lack a beacon of hope, someone to stand against the tides and help us push back the waves of fear, hopelessness, and despair." Navia said as she stared Nataly in the eyes with a guilt inducing look.

"I can stand against the tide but I can't do it for just one kingdom, I will do it for them all," Before Nataly could finish what she was about to say bells started to ring out, Navia looked up in shock and stood quickly.

"We're under attack," Navia said as she rushed out of the officer with Nataly and Val following closely, as they entered the Hall. It was empty of everyone but the desk clerks, "What's going on?" Navia demanded the clerks.

A large man responded, "The horde was spotted by scouts and all adventurers and soldiers are manning the walls and gates."

"Thank you Giaten," Navia said as she led Nataly and Val out the main doors and down the city road towards a large group of adventures.

As they neared people moved out of their way to let Navia to the front. Navia spread her arms and legs and crawled up the wall while Val grabbed Nataly and quickly flew her up.

They stood on the wall Beside Navia she looked out with a small telescope like object and shuddered, a well dressed man ran up and tapped Navia's shoulders, "Guild master what do we do?"

"I don't know Mayor," Navia said as she brought the scope down and looked nervous, "Why would they come here now of all times?" Navia asked herself quietly.

"Didn't your dad start to shed?" The Mayor said as he looked at the hall in the distance.

"You think they're targeting him?" Navia said looking angry.

"Diapedes are powerful creatures, Not even dragons and elder rasques can take them lightly," Val said as she watched the horde move closer.

"You think they're after my father?" Navia said sounding angry, "Like fuck they are," Navia stepped forward, her lower jaw split as she unleash an high insect screech that made everyone cover their ears.

It ended Nataly and shook her head, annoyed, "What the hell was that for?"

"You'll see," Navia said as everyone noticed the horde stopped five hundred yards away.

"Don't think they're going to wait," Nataly said as she pulled out her pistol and turned it into a large Barret M82 rifle.

"What in the world is that!?" Navia asked as Nataly took aim and watched the group of people behind the horde seemingly getting something ready.

"One of the reasons I want to stay neutral between kingdoms," Nataly said, firing a shot and hitting the man giving Commands square in the chest.

Necro was giving out Commands to the pawns as they marched towards Blostreak under the orders of God, "Once we're in range set up the summoning circles and the sky darkening spell circle as well."

The pawns nodded as they used telepathy to Control the beasts and guide the undead in their march.

As they neared the town Necro yelled, "Halt," and the horde stopped moving. Necro looked around and started to give orders, "You three start on the summoning circle. You four start the darkening sky spell. The final five prepare the beast and undead attack orders," but before he could start on his spells his chest exploded in gore, he looked down and stared in shock as there was now a gaping hole in his chest.

The gathered pawns looked on in shock as their leader collapsed and died then they looked at each other as the female's head exploded next, "BARRIER SPELL NOW," the elven pawn yelled as his shoulder and chest exploded. A clear barrier arose around the rest of the pawns.

As the barrier rose the dwarven pawn shuddered as something exploded and cracked the shield in front of his face.

"Damn it! They erected a shield," Nataly said as she lifted her rifle and shrunk it a desert eagle.

"I see why you want to stay neutral. Your power far exceeds anything I've ever heard of," Navia said in shock as she watched three enemies get blown apart by Natalys strange magic, "Now that they have the barrier up how will you kill them?" Navia asked Nataly.

"My grandfather told me about something that I think would be great here, but I need a bit of a set up," Nataly said as she strengthen her legs and jumped down landing in front of the gate, "I need to put up some walls and force enemies to come to me down a small corridor," Nataly explained as she traced out where the walls would be and ending roughly fifteen meters from the gate ending in a small ending where she stood.

"People who can use earth magic erect walls where she asked. Guards open the gate," Navia said as she realised what Nataly was planning.

"But ma'am if we open the gate they will rush in without stopping and overrun us," the captain of the guards said slightly panicked.

"Just do it, don't you see her plan?" Navia asked as Nataly changed her gun into a Quad M2 .50-caliber Machine Gun Mount between the two lines in the ground.

"I do now, OPEN THE GATES," the captain yelled as he looked down at the way it was set up forcing enemies to run into the strange device at the end.

"Just so you know this technique is called a bottleneck," Nataly said as she sat in the gun and watched as the walls grew tall from the Town wall beside her, in the distance a large semi circle rose from the ground releasing a black fog that spewed out undead in a steady manner that gathered together slowly moving forward.

As the tunnel was being built Nataly noticed a lot of animals started to rush forward, then heard the Guards yell, "The Lears and Dolfs are rushing forward, archers to the ready!"

Nataly began to fire down the tunnel scaring the people around her but they calmed down as they realised she was staggering the beasts, even killing some. Val roared as her form shifted into an elephant sized dragon with no horns or tail spike and began to fly towards the beasts, freezing them and killing them with her breath and claws.

"Dear divines she's a dragon shifter," Nataly heard close by as she noticed her mana was slowly decreasing from the constant fire, after decimating a high number of beasts she stopped firing for a few moments to let her mana recover.

Nataly started to fire again as a large wolf with deer like antlers that sprung forward from it's head and rear legs with hooves pounced towards her, only to be blown back be the rapid fire of four guns. Nataly focused her fire on the beasts that charged Val to try and help her until they reached the gates where she started to fire at closest ones slowing down the tide of teeth and claws.

After a few moments the beasts were unable to reach her after the bodies piled up to the ceiling but Nataly kept firing pouring more mana into the rounds causing them to pierce the pile and hit the beast behind it. As her mana dropped quicker she noticed a few staffs appeared beside her head, she stopped firing to recover as multiple flames poured down the tunnel incinerating the bodies and burning the beasts behind it.

Nataly looked back at the various mages and sorcerers, "Thank you please keep it up for a few more seconds to clear the tunnel. Once it's clear I'll start to fire again and after you rest and recover either stay to clear it or help the people on the wall," Nataly said as she stood up and looked at the top of the wall where soldiers and adventurers worked together to kill the beasts that jumped up the wall or the ones in the distance.

Nataly sat down as the flames pittered out and started to fire again as a bear like head rushed out from the dying flames and crashed into the glass, before it could do anything else the fire from all four guns blasted it's chest apart and blew off both of its arms causing it to fall to the ground bleeding, the beast behind it fared no better as the bullets made of mana ripped through them and into some of the beasts behind them.

Val shifted into her younger form when she was barely into her thirtieth season and jumped down and breathed her ice into the oncoming wave of fur, Val flapped her wings as she pounced and roared as she slammed down on the smaller enemies and started to rip into the horde, smiling as she noticed the beasts that targeted her start to fall as Nataly hit them.

Val noticed that the horde of undead that still waited slowly grew larger and she decided to attack them, as Nataly started to focus on defending the gate Val took flight and flew towards them raining ice and death onto beast and undead, she landed on the barrier and started to rake her claws over it, "Release this barrier and fight me you pathetic whelps!" Val shouted trying to distract them from casting their magic.

The two pawns that maintained the barrier looked up in annoyance as they repaired the cracks made by Vals claws, "Make the beast focus the dragon or it'll rip it's way into here," one of the barrier pawns said to three pawns who where sitting down and focusing, they nodded as one as every beast on the field turned and raced towards Val as they charged her.

"Cowards!" Val yelled as she stayed on top and focused on swiping at the barrier waiting for the beasts to get close.

As the beasts started to jump onto the barrier Val swiped at them using her claws and tail sending them back down or killing them, Val smirked as two of the six maintaining the undead summoning spell moved to help with the barrier.

Nataly noticed that the beasts had started to retreat towards Val who was furiously ripping at the barrier that was protecting the enemy mages, "Please collapse the tunnel and close the gates," Nataly yelled as she changed the mounted gun into its basic form, Nataly increased her leg strength and jumped onto the wall and watched as Val was defending herself from the beasts.

Nataly changed her pistol into the Barrett M82 again and started to fire extra powerful rounds at the beast that climbed onto Vals back causing it to fly off from the impact, Val looked at Nataly and nodded her thanks then proceed to breath out ice to a large lion like bear that was quickly blown back and shattered as it hit the ground.

Nataly kept up the fire and started to worry as more and more beasts made their way onto Val, Nataly cried out as two bear like beast ripped Vals wing off as she tried to take flight.

Before Nataly could take any action she noticed the undead started to fly as things made their way to barrier and then gasped as various coloured and sized Diapedes exploded up the barrier and ripped the beast of Val and quickly slaughtered a path for her to run, as Val ran over the undead and unmoving beast the diapedes behind her and beside her kept everything at bay and once they reached the gates Val shifted into her human form and stumbled, a small pure white diapede picked her up and brought her to the top of the wall where it bathed her in white light that mended her various wounds but only stopped the stump of her wing from bleeding.

"Val I'm so sorry, I tried to keep them off of you," Nataly cried as she held Val Close.

"It's ok Nataly you did your best and it will be fine, it'll grow back slowly," Val weezed out exhaustedly, Val closed her eyes and breathed slowly.

"Nataly let her rest and heal. My sibling has healed most of her wounds," Navia said as she put her hand on Natalys back in a supportive manner.

"Get her somewhere safe I have unfinished business," Nataly said angrily as two burly soldiers came up with a stretcher and laid her on top of it and ran toward the medical hall, Nataly went to the wall edge and turned the Barrett into a M2 browning and set it up on the wall and started to pour mana into it causing every bullet fired to explode on the barrier.

All the pawns focused on the barrier as they sent only half of the undead horde towards the town to try and stop the rain of death, "We can't keep this up, we need to do the ritual of one," The tall pawn said to everyone as they watched the barrier start to break.

They all dropped to their knees as the barrier dropped and said in unison, "By the gift of God we shall unify and finish the goal of unification of all life," they chorused as they stabbed their hearts.

Nataly tried to shoot the hooded figures as they kneeled but the sheer amount of bodies in the way stopped her from doing so, Nataly stopped firing as every dead body and undead started to fly towards the center of a black circle.

"What the hell is going on," Nataly asked as she stared at the piling mass of flesh and bone.

"I don't know but I don't like it one bit," Navia said as she watched the pile grow and form into one large humanoid form, Navia started to make chirping sounds and all the nearby diapedes rushed forward towards the giant mass of undead flesh as it started to stand, before it could stand fully the diapedes crawled up it's legs and torso ripping out chunks of flesh, Nataly noticed that the flesh melted and moved towards the giant and absorbed back into it.

"Navia tell them to back off they are not doing anything to it, we need to use magic," Nataly said as two of the diapedes where knocked off and sent flying away, Navia started to click and screech and once she finished all but the red diapedes stopped attacking and ran back.

The red diapedes started to hit the giant with fireballs, every hit the giant groaned and tried to attack but missed the fleet footed diapedes.

Nataly watched as portions of the undead monstrosity fell to the ground slowly burning leaving the giant safe from the fire only temporary as the diapedes spewed more and more fire, the giant slammed it's arms to it's side and wiped it's body up and down with it's arms knocking almost all the red diapedes off and started to try and stomp them, after it crushed a few segments of one small diapede the rest quickly picked it up and rushed it away towards the fort.

"It's too large and we don't have enough firepower to stop that thing," Navia said in disgust.

"What are undead weak to?" Nataly asked as she tried to think of a way to deal with it.

"Holy magic or fire magic, we don't have enough fire users and we only have one Holy user and she's the town healer. Two if you count my sibling," Navia said looking at the eight foot diapede that was waiting nearby.

"Can you call them both up here?" Nataly asked as the giant slowly made its way closer. Nataly started to fire her gun again, aiming at the knee. Each bullet had the same power as a cannon and so after a few seconds the giant fell as its leg was finally blown off, the giant started to stand, but stopped as the foot that fell off melted down and started to fuze with it again.

As Nataly kept tripping the giant the town medic arrived while the white diapede waited on the wall beside her watching the gun in fascination, "Guild leader you called?" a thin girl wearing a white robe with a circle that had an eight pointed star in the center and deep brown hair and bright brown eyes called up.

"Vivian come up here," Navia responded quickly paying attention to the giant that was a hundred feet away.

Vivian froze in shock as the giant mass of undead flesh, "Vivian do you know any powerful spells that could destroy this thing?" Navia asked as she pulled Vivian beside the white diapede.

"I know of a large area purification spell but it takes ten powerful magicians," Vivian said as she watched in horror as the mass came closer step by step.

"That's fine i can provide the mana necessary for the spell," Nataly said as she put a bit of her mana around them both making Vivian gasp from it's pressure, she looked at the diapede beside them and said, "Would it help with casting the spell faster?"

"Yes, but how can it help me if it doesn't know the spell?" Vivian asked as Nataly grabbed her hand and then touched the Diapedes feeler.

"I'm going to connect you two together and provide mana so start the casting," Nataly said as she focused within her self and brought them both within, once there she attached a hose to their backs and then put two small crowns on their heads that had a thin silver chain connecting them.

As Nataly brought them out they both gasped and looked at each other then looked to Nataly, "Cast the spell now I've connected you two and plugged you into my mana ocean," Nataly said as she watched magic and arrows rain down on the giant once it stepped close enough to the city.

Vivian looked at the diapede and smiled "Hello Teresa," Once Vivian said the name Nadia looked over in surprise.

"Only me and mom know their names," Navia said as she stepped close to the white diapede, "Are you ok with this?" she asked.

The diapede clicked and squeaked and the lightly pushed Navia out of the way as it and Vivian started to chant, Nataly groaned as she felt them both pull mana from her then gasped as a giant white magical circle slowly formed in the sky above.

As the giant took three more steps and raised its arms, preparing to attack the city everyone looked up in dismay as they thought the spell was too late. Above them the magic circle started to shine brighter and brighter causing the mass of undead flesh to stop and look up, the masses below started to smile and cheer as Vivian and Teresa the white diapede both yelled and chittered with a powerful voice that shook everyone to their core, "By the divine, the light of purity shall shine and burn all that is corrupt!"

A blinding light burst forth from the giant magical circle in the air and expanded engulfed the giant and everyone healing people and turning all undead into ash causing it to rain down on the people below. No one minded as they watched in pure joy and awe as thousands of spirits cried out in joy at being free from the shackles of flesh and slowly flew into the open hands of a divine being where the magic circle was.

Everyone was stunned when a beautiful voice said joyously, "Thank you for sending these chained souls to where they belong." What no one noticed was that a few souls where being chased and ripped apart and dragged into a fiery abyss by faceless creatures that radiated sadistic glee, a deep voice said quietly, "You who have brought suffering upon the innocent shall suffer one hundred times their suffering," it laughed as the portal closed cutting off the screams of terror.
