Reckless Ch. 02

"Tell me Russ, were you ever going to check on me to see if I was alive? I thought we were stronger than that. And what if Keith did want me? Would you give me up so easily?"

"No, of course not Ebony, I was just hurt. You know I would fight for you. Have you seen Keith's car lately?"

She laughed and said "You did those things to his car, oh you're such a scamp." She looked past me, catching a glimpse of my ex hiding behind the wall eavesdropping. Ebony being the she-devil that she is asked

"What about your girlfriend upstairs?"

"Ah we're just friends, nothing happened and nothing was going to happen, I love only you Ebony."

She smiled from ear to ear, gave me a huge luscious kiss and hugged me. I heard a resounding slam of a door behind me that startled me. I asked "What the hell was that?" Ebony replied "It was probably the wind, let's go inside." While inside her apartment I asked what made her so ill and she said she thinks it was a stomach virus because she had been puking every morning. I asked if it was possible that she might be pregnant and she replied that it was possible but it wasn't probable because she was on the pill. We began to kiss until we heard a violent knock on the door. Through the whole confusion, I forgot that I left my ex in my house. I was on the couch when Ebony opened the door and I heard my mother shout "Ebony! What the hell is going on between you and my son?!" They started arguing in Creole and just like clock work my cell phone rang with Trife on the I.D.; that was a call I was not answering. Two minutes later I received a text saying

"Russ if you don't answer your phone, when I get there Friday, I will rip your heart out."

I began to realize that the door I heard slam in the hallway was caused by my ex. She must've called her sister, told her what she had heard, who in turn called and told Trife, thus having him call me. The circle of life or in my case; the circle of my death; man I knew this lady would be the death of me. Immediately I rushed over to try to calm things between my mom and Ebony, then Trife called Ebony's house and joined in on the festivities. It was total mayhem, my mother yelling at me, Ebony and Trife arguing on phone, I couldn't take it anymore. So I took the phone from Ebony and screamed at the top of my voice, gaining everyone's attention and said

"Listen everyone! I love Ebony and she loves me. We are in love, it wasn't intentional, it just happened. I hoped that the two people we loved the most would see it as a beautiful blessing and support us. Mom I'm not some thug on the street and I get good grades. And Trife we are brothers, I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you or your mom. But if you feel you can't accept this and still need to fight me, bring it! I'll be waiting."

I dropped the phone and stormed out of the house leaving everyone in a silent awe. At first I only went for a short walk to calm my nerves, but I found myself downtown and checking into a hotel. I called Ebony to see if she was ok and she told me all was fine between her and my mother. They talked for a while and my mom realized how much Ebony loved me. Besides they were best friends and Ebony supported my mom at the lowest point of her life. Also they were both impressed with the way I handled the situation, apparently I finally Man-ed up. My best friend Trife was not as forgiving; I guest he's part of the reason why I'm lying in this coma. On the phone, Ebony pleaded with me not to confront Trife, she'd never heard him speak that way before and she feared for my safety. She begged that I'd lie low and I agreed, to be honest I was terrified. The next day I went home, made sweet love to Ebony, had a long talk with my mom and out of impulse, I left to join the army.

No one had a clue to my whereabouts until the end of basic training when I called my mom, then again when I called Ebony the day before my deployment. Two years and two tours stationed in Iraq, PFC. Logan and I were patrolling our base's perimeter when we were attacked by enemy combatants. The last thing I remembered was our jeep being hit by a grenade. I regained consciousness twice since I've been hospitalized; the first time I saw my mother, but I heard she and Ebony alternated visits so I'm never alone. The second time, much to my surprise it was Trife sitting on my bed with tears in his eyes. I was unable to speak, so he spent the next hour apologizing, expressing his pride and love for me. Then out the blue he said "Hold on a minute Russ, I have a surprise for you." He left the room and came back minutes later with the cutest little boy, no more than two years old. When I got a good look at his face, I saw he had the prettiest pair of pale green eyes and Trife said "Russ, I would love to introduce to you my beautiful baby brother, RJ."
