"So how much does it really cost?" Gary asked.

"The initial basic membership is $10,000 per couple," Jason replied waiting. There is also an annual dues of $1,000 per couple and a charge of $500 per couple for each of the four gatherings during the year. It might sound like a lot to some people, but when you consider the food and drink and security at the events, it's not out of line."

"Security?" Melissa asked.

Jason responded, "They have guards at the gate to check who has paid, and to keep out any crashers. They also confiscate cameras and phones to make sure that nobody takes any pictures. Any violation is subject to immediate ejection and membership fees are not refunded.

You will also have to submit to a series of medical tests a week before the gatherings. They are done at nominal cost by several of the members who are doctors. You visit their office, they collect whatever samples are necessary, and send the member ID numbers to you and the security committee. If you flunk the medical screening, you won't be allowed to enter the party. Depending on the issue, you may be ejected from membership permanently. Again, no refund of the dues or fees paid so it's important an incentive to stay clean."

It's really NOT some sort of mysterious secret group or anything like that, but obviously, people don't want pictures or names of members being released to the public in any way. If you're really interested, I'll set it up for a one-time visit as a perspective member. You will have to pay the $500, and if you're interested in joining, you'll have to be interviewed by the membership committee and provide some background information. It's really not that bad, but they have to make sure that the members are trustworthy."

Gary spoke up again, "I think we'd really love to check it out. How long have you guys belonged?"

"Karen and I have been members for about 4 years. That's where we met Bill and Janet and some others we play with. We don't really play with others to minimize risks, but we did make an exception with you and Melissa. However, Melissa will tell you that I did ask her to get a medical check before the reunion dance."

Melissa nodded her head, "He did. I thought it was a good idea too and now I have a better understanding why. What do we have to do to go to this gathering with you?"

Jason said, "I'll call the membership committee and clear it. I'll let you know in a couple of days, but I think it will be ok."

Gary and Melissa looked at each other and smiled. They hadn't felt this enthused about something new for a long time.
