The stars had come out—a sky of infinite blank ink, bejeweled with thousands of tiny lights. All colors. All shimmering—as if someone had scattered them there, intentionally, just to watch them shine. The land below the Mesa was barely visible, draped with a thin dusting of the Moon's pale light. Zoya noticed that the stars seemed to glimmer more around the Moon's edges, forming a kind of halo. She had never seen that before.
