VOLUME THREE
It was such a peaceful night. Merkhail slept like a baby, a smile comically plastered across his face and his sheets wrapped about his gaunt body. Even when his consciousness began to slowly wake him, he was still content. Things were going so well on the Sarapatra, they were delivering cargo ten percent faster than before and High Command had sent him a communique with three mysterious words: Good job Lieutenant. It was much better than hearing the girls say it. Usually it came with a hint of sarcasm.
Merkhail rolled over to get out of bed.
"GAH!" he cried out in fright.
Like a room fixture, Ania was sitting in his corner chair, one leg over the other. Staring at him. Watching him.
"What the hell are you doing in here?!"
"Watching you." Ania said blandly.
"What the hell for?"
Ania shrugged. Her eyelids hung low over her eyes making her look as mellow as a mushroom. "I sometimes watch you. At night."
Her explanation added about ten extra points to the weird meter. And her follow up added twenty more, "It's nothing weird... I watch everyone while they sleep. You learn things..."
"Oh really?" Merkhail said while rubbing his eyes, "What's Leanne like?"
"She dreams that she's chasing bunnies..."
"And Reynami?"
"She dreams that she's chasing coc-"
"Enough!"
"Can you go back to sleep please?" Ania asked in the same, soft, monotone she always used.
"No! You leave first."
"Do you want me to sing you a lullaby?"
"No!"
"Want me to rock you to sleep?"
Merkhail scratched his chin. This was going somewhere, he could tell. "Ania? Have you ever thought of having kids?"
"All the time. Can't while I'm in the Corps."
All Seraphim Girls were temporarily sterilized until they were released. So this was what Ania was thinking about. Perfectly natural truth be told, she was past twenty and in great shape. There was only one problem.
"Ania? Is that why you always stare at me?"
Ania cracked a thin smile, "You're eyes are blue, right?"
"Get out!"

The Sarapatra had just taken on twice the amount of cargo it was able to carry. The normal crewmen weren't able to keep up with it all, so Merkhail asked the Seraphim detachment if they could pitch in. They were board enough as it was, danger proved elusive at the moment. Not that Merkhail was complaining. But the spare time was causing problems. Reynami finally fulfilled her goal of sleeping with every man on the ship, all Ania did was follow Merkhail around staring at him, and Leanne was devoting more time to her karaoke.
Thanks to technological advances, moving heavy cargo didn't require machinery or strong workers. The Sarapatra had an arsenal of XK25 power gauntlets onboard, they allowed the wearer to lift up to four times what they normally could. Merkhail watched in awe ad Ania picked up a box twice her size and calmly place it elsewhere like an inflatable toy.
"Good job." said Merkhail.
Whoops, thought the young lieutenant. That was the last crate Ania had to move. She resumed staring at him like she usually did.
"...Stop staring at me!" Merkhail boomed. He must have said that a hundred times already, it never worked.
The doors to the cargo room opened with a low hiss. Merkhail spied Reynami walking towards him, looking as pissed as could be. She had a toddler tucked under both her arms.
Merkhail sputtered while suppressing her laughter, "Wow Reynami, you popped those out quickly."
"Bite me!" she barked. She set the kids down and arrested their attempts to run off, "Stay! Stay!"
The Sarapatra had a small daycare center for employees with children. Humans spent more time in space than they did on planets in today's day and age; every ship needed a daycare center.
"That damn daycare lady is out sick so they hoodwinked me into running the daycare." said Reynami.
"Look at it this way, it's good training for the future. In case you want a few babies down the road."
Reynami maintained a certain persona around Merkhail and he had managed to pick up on it. She wanted everyone to think she was cool and composed even in the worse situations. So whenever a situation like this arouse, she looked for a way to get back to that persona. Merkhail's mention of pregnancy and babies gave her the perfect opening.
"Oh, I'll be squeezing out babies all right," she said with a sinister smirk, "YOUR babies."
Merkhail laughed her joke off, "Fine, you can have my sperm. But it comes with OCD and a 50% chance of diabetes."
One of the rugrats tried to scamper away. Reynami grabbed his collar and returned fire, "I would expect the future father of my babies to sound a little more confident."
"Reynami, somewhere in the universe the future father of your babies just lifted his head from a puddle of vomit."
Princess Leanne found her way over to them, no doubt wanting to confirm her suspicion: Reynami really was babysitting toddlers.
"Reynami?" she asked dumbly.
"Don't talk to me unless you want my job."
Leanne didn't swoon over the kids like Merkhail expected her to. In fact, she stayed far away from them like she was scared.
"Everything okay your Highness?" Merkhail asked.
"Um, yeah...I have to go." She scampered off.
"What was that about?" Reynami asked.
"That's my line," quipped the young lieutenant.
Merkhail returned his attention to the monumental task at hand. And the ships' captain was checking in every five minutes to make sure everything was alright. If so much as a single piece of cargo got damaged, the Sarapatra would be replaced by another more responsible cargo ship.
"Sir? Lieutenant Merkhail?"
Speak of the devil; that was the captain's voice right now.
"Everything is still okay captain," said Merkhail with a hint of frustration.
"I'm not calling about that. We just got a distress call from the planet below, apparently a civilian cruise liner crashed. Can you scramble the girls?"
Merkhail looked off to the side. Reynami and Leanne climbing onto crates to help stack them better. Leanne clamored to get higher, exposing her heart-shaped ass cheeks. One of the passing crew members lewdly spanked her. Reynami kicked him in the face.
"Can you give me more information?" Merkhail asked.
"Like what?"
"What species are aboard this cruise liner? Is anyone injured? Can the planet even sustain air breathing creatures like humans and elves?"
"Hey man, I'm just a cargo ship captain, the recruiter laughed at me when I tried to join the army. You'll have to figure it out yourself."
"Alright. Just keep the Sarapatra in orbit in case we need to leave quickly. Over and out."
Merkail rubbed his face and considered the angle he would attack this new mission from. He strolled over to the pile of crates Reynami and Leanne were standing on top of.
"Hey girls! Listen up! We've got a slight problem down on the planet. We need to check out a distress call, grab your weapons and meet me in the hanger."
Both Seraphim Soldiers nodded but didn't do anything. They had climbed quite high onto the pile of crates in the cargo bay.
"...You two are stuck up there aren't you?"
#
The planet below had no name, Leanne searched the computer logs for one and found nothing, which meant it was either uninhabitable, dangerous or both.
Merkhail and the girls landed as close to the distress call as they could. The planet was overgrown with exotic jungle, before they landed Merkhail sent Reynami and Ania down in smaller crafts to plant explosives and blast out a clear patch of earth to land on.
Merkhail stepped off the transport pod and got a nose full of jungle musk. It stuck to both the nostrils and the memory. "Ugh, ever smelt a turd that's been sitting in a toilet for three days?"
Leanne stepped off second and caught the same foul stench. She wrinkled her cute little elf nose, "So the planet is one big piece of poop?"
Ania used a cloth bandage from her aid kit to clog her nose, "Kill me..."
Reynami had no pithy comment when she exited the pod. She just pinched her nose and pointed, "Distress call is coming from this way. Come on, maybe if we run the smell won't stick to our skin."
#
All four soldiers crawled through the oddly colored foliage. They all either got used to the smell or found ways to take their minds off it. Merkhail, for example, enjoyed watching the girls. Their skin was drenched with sweat from the heat and climbing over the jungle caused their leotards to slide into their butt cheeks.
"Hey Leanne?" Reynami was cutting through some vines with her combat knife, "Why did you freak out when you saw those toddlers?"
The princess was busy trying to push a dead tree branch out of her way. "Ooofff! I didn't freak out and I don't want to talk about it."
Ania arrived to help Leanne move the dead tree. Resting under the tree was a dark hole that lead into the ground. As if noticing outside movement, a series of green tentacles shot out. They coiled around Leanne's wrists, then her waist. When she was properly secured, two more tendrils coiled around her boobs and squeezed.
"Ah! They always go for my boobs!" the elf princess sobbed.
Bang-Bang-Bang!
Merkhail blased the tentacles to bloody pieces, forcing them to retract into the hole from whence they came.
"Wow, clock the time. Leanne meets horny tentacles one hour after visiting a new planet. Now all that's left are slugs, robots and sentient rape-slimes."
"Question," said Reynami. "Why is Leanne scared of babies?"
"I'm not scared of them!"
Ania stumbled across a cluster of tentacles much like the ones that attacked Leanne. But she managed to dispatch them all with a few, lightning fast swipes of her combat knife. Merkhail used the distraction to change the topic of conversation, "Girls, not more chit-chat. We've got people to help."
"Well pardon me for lightening things up!" Reynami sneered sarcastically.
Merkhail spared a glance at Leanne. She had twigs stuck in her hair and she was desperately trying to pull them out. He wanted to know what her deal was too.
#
There was a huge patch of broken trees where the crashed passenger ship lay crippled. It was almost as big as the Sarapatra. A small group of civilians were gathered around one of the ship's doors, constructing a make-shift shelter out of debris and tree branches. As Merkhail led the girls closer, he realized how misled he was. The distress call failed to mention that the stranded ship belonged to the elves. Three came over to meet Merkhail's party. One thing that made the elf race stand out besides their ears was their hair, males always had black hair and females always had blonde. One particularly tall elf was dressed in attire too fancy for his environment, proof that his race valued appearance over everything else.
He leapt flamboyantly towards Merkhail, "Call me Grace! Thank you for responding to our call!"
"Evening. Lieutenant Merkhail of the Sarapatra.
You never told me you guys were elves."
Grace rubbed the back of his head in a nervous fashion, "Well, I know things between humans and elves are a little tense right now so I was worried you'd blast off if I told you the truth. Sorry about that."
He noticed the three Seraphim girls and pranced over to meet them, "Oh, you brought some pretty flowers with you I see. Are they yours?"
Merkhail could only try to remain professional in front of an obviously unprofessional individual, "Oh, yes. From left to right, their names are Ania, Reynami and Leanne."
Naturally, Grace was drawn to Leanne, scrutinizing her from head to toe, "Wait a second, you're an elf!"
"Yes sir. I joined the Seraphim Soldiers about a year ago."
"What a brave thing you are! Here!" he produced a rose so fast Merkhail suspected it was magic, "For you, thank you for coming to help us you cute thing." Leanne giddily took the present and blushed.
"Hey," Reynami pushed Leanne aside, "What about me? Do I get a rose?" Her poor manners and masculine stance appeared to be quite the turn off for Grace, he took three big steps back from her.
"I'm ready to get down to business if you are," said Merkhail in a stern but polite tone, "First things first, any damage to the engine?"
"Uh...don't know."
"What about the reactor? Are they Crytonium levels synchronized?"
"Uh...I think so."
Merkhail frowned, "Okay, I'm no good at this game so I'll start simple. Any injuries?"
"Only minor cuts a bruises. The females aboard ventured into the jungle to search for help about three hours ago, but sadly we haven't heard back from them."
Ania began to poke Merkhail in the side. It was almost as annoying as her staring.
"What?!"
"Sarapatra has to leave orbit sir. noxious Fumes from the planet are screwing up life support systems."
Geez, the planet smelled even in space, thought Merkhail. He pointed to Leanne and Reynami, "You two sweep the area and see if you can find the women. Ania and I will stay here and try to fix up the ship."
"Wait a second," said Grace concerned.
"Don't worry, Ania is a great engineer."
"We need Leanne to stay here," said Grace in a rather uncompromising tone, "We have a nursery onboard and we don't have any women to watch the infants."
Merkhail really didn't want to change his game plan. Reynami and Leanne were great together in combat, Leanne's book smart style complimented Reynami's kill-everything approach well, "Can't you guys watch the babies?"
"Lieutenant," said Grace shyly, "We need a woman who can nurse the infants."
Merkhail scratched his head, "Leanne's not pregnant so she can't really do the breast feeding thing."
"Yes I can," said Leanne stepping forward. She was flushed, "I'm an Elf. I'm different from human women. Simply being around infants triggers the hormone for lactation."
So THAT was why she felt nervous around babies, she was worried she'd start lactating on the spot and embarrass herself in front of ignorant humans.
The petite elf princess looked up at Merkhail for approval. But the lieutenant was more fascinated than anything else, "So simply being around infants is enough to make elf females lactate?"
"Yes sir."
There was a moment of awkward silence, the cawing and croaking of a thousand different jungle creatures saturated the air along with a foul smell that everyone was reluctantly getting used to. Merkhail had little room to go against Leanne's wishes, if she was the only one who could save the kids there wasn't a choice.
"Alright. Reynami and I will search the jungle instead. Everyone understand?"
It was a rhetorical question. Leanne walked into the crippled space ship with Ania, Grace tried to follow but Merkhail stopped him, "Whoa, whoa, how about we give her some privacy, huh?"
Grace flashed a dopey smile, "Oh, I would never peep like that sir."
#
The space ship was air conditioned and the sweat forming on Leanne's soft skin evaporated after only a couple minutes. She walked into the nursery and found six unattended babies in their beds, squirming around without a care in the world. Hopefully everything she learned in science class was correct, if Merkhail couldn't locate the missing females she was their only hope. They all looked so cute and innocent; she wanted to snuggle all of them.
"Hey guys," she said. She picked up the nearest baby and rocked him back and forth. Afterwards she made sure the nursery door was locked and unzipped her leotard, letting her firm bosom escape and fall into shape. The baby she was holding wasted no time, he locked onto her teat and tried to suckle. Nothing came out.
"D-Don't worry," said Leanne trying to remain optimistic, "Just give me a little time, I'm not going to let you down."
#
"Is that true?" blurted Merkhail while romping through the steamy jungle with Reynami, "Do elf females really lactate simply by being around infants?"
"Elves brag about being the perfect race so they tend to exaggerate a lot of things. But if Leanne thinks it's true, it's true. Are you nervous or something?"
They both jumped across a small creek, hearing the animals scurry away, "We're helping a ship full of elves. I'm going to be nervous until this ordeal is over."
"You think they're going to blast off and take Leanne with them or something?"
"It's possible I supposed," said Merkhail. Leanne was an elf princess but she told him no one would recognize her. By law, her picture could not be unveiled to the public until she became queen. Protection against assassination attempts.
"Ugh, I'm so hot!" whined Reynami. She unzipped her leotard and pulled it down to her waist.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Merkhail covered his eyes; her voluptuous rack was in full view. Sweat was dripping off her nipples drop by drop. "Don't be so uptight sir; women have boobs in case you've forgotten."
"Of course I know that! But how would you feel if I suddenly dropped my pants in front of you?!"
What a stupid question. Reynami stalked towards him, shaking her bare chest and licking her lips, "I would l-o-v-e that sir."
The heat must have caused her to blow a fuse! She ran the tip of her tongue across Merkhail's neck, lapping up his sweat, "How do you like that?" She slipped a hand down his pants and located his member, quite engorged simply from looking at her bare chest.
"Reynami? Do you know what you're doing?" Merkhail asked, worried this was some kind of elaborate trick. The horny Seraphim Girl rubbed her crotch against him. Her hot breath smelled so nice.
"So, uh..." Merkhail trailed off, she spread her legs and invited him in.
"Screw it," he swung his penis into position and placed it on the wet entrance to her vagina. God knew hundreds of other dicks had already had the pleasure.
"Jackass." Reynami said suddenly.
"...What?!"
She stepped back and re-dressed herself, turning off her libido like it were a switch, "I would never do that to Leanne."
"Do what? Wait a second!"
"Have sex with you before she did. Open your eyes dude! She loves you! And if you're worrying about her instead of Ania and I, that means you love her back!" Merkhail's manhood was became sad and limp. He shook his head back and forth, "No, no, no! She's married!"
"Marriages end!"
"She's an elf!"
"So you're a racist now?"
The young officer threw his combination cap into the mud and shook the sweat off his long black hair, "Can we talk about this some other time? Please?!"
"You're such a guy! You have time to screw me but you won't talk about this?"
A flock of birds suddenly took flight a few feet away. The two soldiers hit the mud and drew weapons, they weren't alone.

Ania didn't care much about...anything honestly, and she especially didn't care about the ship she was ordered to repair. She was only doing it because it was an order. Grace, the tall eccentric elf Merkhail spoke to earlier, led her into the depths of the ship and into the engine room. He claimed that the planet's fumes were potentially sickening to humans so he asked that she get a special vaccination before anything else. Ania agreed, and then she demanded privacy while she worked.
Surprisingly, all the damages were easily fixable with the right amount of effort. Ania rolled her eyes and pitied the stranded civilians; if any of them had the slightest knowledge of mechanical engineering they could have fixed the ship themselves.
Her radio crackled, "Ania? Darling? It's Grace, need anything?"
"Quiet..." said Ania immediately. "Don't call me darling." "...Well okay, call if you're stumped."
