What Margaret had said really stung. Thinking back, Leanne and the girls HAD met an unusual amount of fates that involved having their brains fucked out. Was it Merkhail's fault? Or was it just bad luck? Leanne came to a stop. She really did love Merkhail, crazy or not. And nothing was going to drive her away from him.
"...Excuse me? Miss? Excuse me?"
Leanne found her path blocked by the most unusual young woman ever. Her eyes were mismatched, one was blue the other was red. Her hair was just as illogical, one side was done in a pig tail the other was long and wavy. Was she human? Her face certainly looked normal but her hands were not, they looked like hawk's talons.
"My name is Agent Francine," the girl's talons cracked and bent to produce a form of ID, "I work for the Department of Earth Defense. Are you Corporal Leanne?"
"Yes?"
Francine smiled and began to spin in circles like a child. "Awesome! I found you! I found you!"
"What?"
"I heard that Lieutenant Merkhail and his squad of Seraphim Soldiers were here but I've been searching for you guys for days. I'm so happy I found - Ack!"
Francine choked and gasped for air, her lungs made horrible scratching sounds. She quickly pulled out an inhaler. "Ah! All better now! I'm sure you've noticed I'm not completely human."
Leanne shuddered. She knew what Francine was; she was the hybrid offspring of a human and alien. During training, all the female Seraphim Soldiers were shown pictures of hybrid children. It helped them understand why they needed to be sterilized and protected from aliens that wanted to impregnate them. Usually hybrids died early due to complications, but this one seemed nearly perfect save for her obvious breathing problems. And she had a government job to boot.
"Is Lieutenant Merkhail around? Can I see him?" the little hybrid girl chirped.
"What for?"
Francine produced a document. "We've been trying to contact him for some time now. We're recalling him back to Earth. Effective immediately."
