Parts 3 and 4 of the Serving the Amazon series.

Anteros ate and then gathered his weapons and armor. He carried them in a sack. There was no point in putting the armor on, since it was customary to swim before practicing.

When he arrived, there were several dozen other students. All but one other was female. Anteros was one of the older students, with some being 3 years his junior.

The academy was at the edge of the great river that flowed past the territory of the Amazons. The students gathered there, waiting for the class to start. They chatted with each other, but today the normally gregarious Anteros kept to himself. He had a lot on his mind. He couldn't stop thinking about Lien and how she had touched him.

Anteros was a star pupil with a sword. He possessed great strength and quickness, as well as a keen sense of his opponent's intentions. He always seemed to know what an opponent's next move would be. None of the other students could match him with a sword, although Ninsala, the fencing master, always seemed to find a way to land a blow on him when she wished.

She said that it was Anteros' anticipation that allowed her to defeat him. Being aware of this he tried not to over anticipate. It was a cat and mouse game, more mental than physical. He was stronger than she, and equally fast but she was able to beat him by out thinking him. Sometimes they would fence for ten minutes before she would strike him, but she always won. He supposed that was the reason she was the master and he was the student.

It was no challenge for him to practice with his classmates, so Anteros often practiced with the best swordsmen and swordswomen in the city. The fencing master would usually match him against two students, if she or one of her fellow teachers were not able to fence with him. Anteros always defeated two of his classmates, but this was at least more challenging for him.

Anteros was also quite adept at hand-to-hand combat. His strength, speed and large size made it difficult for anyone to beat him. Anteros often grappled with an opponent longer that he needed to because he enjoyed the body contact while wrestling girls. After his session with Lien, he now knew better why he enjoyed this.

He had been trained to use a staff, spear, and dagger with deadly proficiency. The teachers at the academy knew that Anteros was going to be an exceptional warrior. He had already attracted the attention of the captain of the queen's personal guards. With Anteros' size, strength and skill at his young age, the queen's captain made the time to watch Anteros' practice at least once a month. They were grooming him for a position among the Amazon's elite warriors.

His one weakness, in the martial arts, was with a bow. Anteros could launch an arrow a great distance, but accuracy was not something he excelled at. He was able to hit the straw dummies with a killing blow at 100 paces. At 150 paces, the arrows sometimes hit the arm or leg, but he did hit it. This was good enough for the soldiers of many armies, but among the Amazons, it was something anyone could do. Amazons could consistently hit the head of the straw dummies at 100 paces, and the body at 200 paces.

Anteros didn't like archery. He practiced as much as he was required to, but his heart wasn't in it. He loved the sword, and even though he had only a wooden one, he lusted for one made of iron. An iron sword was the only material possession that he longed for. He knew that one day he would get one, but he didn't know when that day would come.

Ninsala ordered the students into the river. They quickly disrobed and entered the water. The students were expected to swim to the opposite bank and then back. When they emerged from the water, they put on their leather armor and gathered in the area where they practiced.

The students spread out and stretched their muscles. Anteros was still thinking about the pleasure that Lien had given him. While he was daydreaming, he was admiring the shape of Lorissa, who was wearing a short skirt and was bent over a few yards in front of him. He was bent over at the waist with his head up. Lorissa, also bent over at the waist, looked between her impossibly long legs and met his gaze.

This embarrassed Anteros, but not as badly as when the flat edge of Ninsala's sword struck him in the behind. This was not painful, since Anteros' armor protected him from the blow, but the force sent him sprawling forward into the grass. Several of the other students, including Lorissa, saw this and laughed openly.

Anteros, red-faced, quickly stood up and looked at the stern face of Ninsala.

Ninsala was unable to grasp his hair or ear since Anteros was wearing a helmet. She was determined to make a strong point to Anteros, so she grabbed the only thing she could, his nose. She pulled his head down to her mouth and whispered in the ear hole of his helmet. "If you are staring at Lorissa's bottom during battle, you will die quickly. Now pay attention to your exercises."

Anteros, humiliated yet again today, simply stared at the ground. Ninsala knew that he understood, but feared that his interest in Lorissa was a problem that she was going to have some trouble dealing with. She wasn't aware that Anteros was now initiated into manhood and would be leaving her class soon.

Ninsala ordered the students to pair up and fence. She decided to teach Anteros another lesson and paired him up with Lorissa.

Lorissa was tall and strong, a very good fencer, but not in Anteros' league. Anteros had known Lorissa for as long as he could remember. They were born within days of each other. They played together and attended school together. They were good friends, but for some time, Anteros couldn't help but notice how beautiful she had become.

Lorissa was nearly as tall as Anteros. Her build was slim, but she was strong from years of training. Her long, dark, hair had a natural wave and reached nearly to her waist. She was quite proud of her hair and seldom braided it or put it up. She tanned easily and had an even brown cast over her smooth skin.

"Don't hurt her, Anteros, but give her a good workout. I want her muscles to ache after today's lesson," said Ninsala.

"Yes, Mistress," Anteros answered with a nod. He couldn't help but think he would like to massage the ache out of Lorissa's muscles.

Anteros and Lorissa squared off. Lorissa knew that Anteros was the superior fencer, but that never deterred her from aggressively attacking him. Lorissa struck first with a quick lunge directly at Anteros' midsection. He moved to parry it, but it was only a feint. Lorissa quickly moved to his left and swung her wooden sword towards his exposed arm.

Anteros parried this blow and countered with a thrust toward Lorissa's midsection. Lorissa, quick on her feet, managed to step back just far enough that he missed by an inch. She then stepped forward, with four quick slices. Left, right, left, down. Her form was impeccable, but Anteros managed to block each stroke.

Lorissa had moved too close to him and he suddenly dropped to the ground, and swept her legs out from beneath her. As she fell, he struck her across the kidney with his wooden sword. She was protected by her armor and he did not use great force. She was uninjured, but had they been using real swords, her death would have been nearly instantaneous.

Lorissa groaned, disgusted at herself for allowing him to do this to her. "You will pay for that, Anteros!" she snapped at him. She was not angry with him, but at herself, and Anteros knew this.

Anteros was sitting on the ground with his legs still entwined with the long legs of the reclining Lorissa. Her arms were above her head and she stared at the sky. Anteros thought she looked even more beautiful than usual.

They both returned to their fighting stances. Lorissa looked even more intent on striking Anteros. Anteros smiled at her, which seemed to infuriate her. Lorissa attacked him with a vigor that he had not seen in her before.

Anteros dodged, ducked, blocked and parried every blow she attempted for a full ten minutes. She was dripping with perspiration. Lorissa was in excellent physical condition, but Anteros could see that she was becoming fatigued. He was merely getting warmed up, since parrying her blows was much less tiring than swinging the heavy wooden sword.

Anteros counter attacked. He didn't really try to land his blows, but only attacked with enough speed to give Lorissa practice at parrying and dodging. When she was tired enough that it would be easy for him, he disarmed her with a powerful blow aimed near the hilt of her sword.

Lorissa, spun and dropped, attempting to sweep him off his feet with a reverse roundhouse kick. Anteros simply blocked this with his sword. As she made contact the tip of his sword wedged into the ground. Again, Lorissa was not seriously hurt, but in a real battle, she would have had her calf muscles cut through to the bone and would likely be crippled for life.

"Pick up your sword and try again," said Anteros.

Lorissa sat on the ground and rubbed her bruised leg, obviously in some pain.

"Are you injured, Miss Lorissa? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you."

Lorissa flashed an angry look at him. "Don't worry about me, Anteros. I can take worse than this." Lorissa was an Amazon and the Amazons were tough. If they weren't they never could have survived in this man's world.

"Let me look. Please Miss. I would like to help."

Ninsala had noticed that Lorissa was still on the ground and approached them. She dropped to one knee and pushed Lorissa's hands away. "Let me see, Lorissa."

Lorissa complied and Ninsala examined her calf closely.

"You will have a nasty bruise, Lorissa. I expect you will live though." Her attention turned to Anteros and she did not appear to be happy. "I told you not to hurt her, Anteros. What do you think you were doing, striking her so hard?"

"I didn't hit her, Mistress. She tried to kick me and I blocked with my sword."

Ninsala looked at Lorissa and Lorissa nodded affirmatively. Ninsala shook her head back and forth and looked skyward as if to say, "Why did the Gods test my patience this way."

"Help her up, Anteros. Take her to a physician. You will be alright, Lorissa, but a physician may be able to accelerate your healing."

Anteros stood behind Lorissa easily lifted her to her feet. He stood beside her and she put one arm around his shoulders for support. She gingerly walked beside him, barely able to stand putting weight on her injured leg. Anteros simply reached behind her legs and picked her up.

Lorissa looked annoyed at first. Her face was only inches from Anteros' and he could see the burning intensity in her dark brown eyes. Anteros smiled broadly, amused at her pride and also enjoying holding her close to him. Lorissa's expression softened and she also smiled.

As he carried her to the physician, he was wishing that Lorissa had been involved in his initiation. The smile left Anteros' face and he looked straight ahead as he realized he was getting an erection. Much to his relief, it subsided as they approached the physician's home and office.

Lorissa pushed open the door and Anteros sat her on the table. The physician entered the room and immediately saw that Lorissa was rubbing her leg with a pained expression. She moved Lorissa's hand out of the way and moved her own hands gently from ankle to mid-thigh.

"It seems to just be a bruise, Lorissa. Anteros, you really must stop hitting her with that wooden sword. It has been a few months since the two of you have been in here and I thought you'd finally got some sense beaten into that hard head of yours."

"But, I didn't hit her, Mistress..." Anteros blurted out.

The physician interrupted him, "If you didn't hit her, then why did you have to carry her here?"

"She kicked my sword, Mistress," answered Anteros.

"Well that must be a new fighting technique. It has been a long time since I trained as a warrior and I never was very good at it, but kicking your opponent's sword is not something they taught me. I suppose that is why I'm a physician. I really don't understand the finer aspects of combat," she said sarcastically. "Stay off that leg for a three days, Lorissa. There is the danger of a nasty blood clot forming and the best thing you can do to prevent that is stay in bed and keep your leg elevated. I know you already have crutches, thanks to your last bout with Anteros. Come back in three days. Walk here if it isn't too painful. Carry her home, Anteros. Now get out of here."

After taking Lorissa home and seeing that she was resting comfortably with her leg elevated, Anteros returned to the practice field. Ninsala approached him and inquired about Lorissa's condition.

"She will be unable to train for at least three days, Mistress," he informed her.

"While you were gone I received a message from Lien. She tells me that you are now a man and you should train with the adults. This will be your last training session here, Anteros. Tomorrow afternoon you train with mistress Diana. Tonight and tomorrow morning you train with mistress Lien," said Ninsala with a wicked smile and a wink. "Take care to remember my lessons when you are with Diana. If you are distracted by Lien's lessons, Diana will teach you a painful lesson. You are a good swordsman, Anteros, but the warriors that Diana is training are older and far more skilled than the young ones in my care. Don't count on being the best there."

"Yes, Mistress," he answered.

Ninsala saw him gazing at a young woman walking by. She was not pleased by his rudeness. Ninsala, a woman that tended to act first and discuss it later, took action. Anteros was not wearing his helmet now so grabbed his left ear with quickness and power of someone that had been practicing with a sword for thirty years.

Anteros winced but didn't cry out or try to break her grip. For one thing it would have been improper to resist the discipline of his teacher. For another thing she was so strong he was afraid his ear would come off before her grip weakened.

"Pay attention, Boy!" she snapped. "Heed my words, Anteros. You have great potential, but you aren't ready to take any of Diana's students lightly," she added.

With that she released her grip and ordered him to the archery range. Anteros easily pierced the center of a target at 100 paces. His next arrow hit the edge of a target at 150 paces. Normally, he would have hit this target near the center, but he was daydreaming about his experience with Lien, and how beautiful Lorissa was.

He fired another arrow and just nicked the edge of the target, then attempted to hit the target at 200 paces. He missed it by several feet while his younger classmates were hitting their targets solidly every time. He blushed. He was used to being teased about his inability to strike the center of the target at 200 paces, but to miss it completely was shameful.

"Anteros!" shouted Ninsala. "Come here! The rest of you continue practicing and mind your own business!"

He saw anger in Ninsala's eyes, the likes of which he'd never seen. Her dark stare cut right through him. His heart sank. He liked and respected Ninsala. He was afraid. Not afraid that she'd pull his ear or strike him with the flat of her sword, but afraid that he'd disappointed her.

"Come with me, Boy!" she snapped as she led him inside her home nearby.

Ninsala's home was a common type in the Amazon city. It was sturdy, constructed of mortar, and had a thatched roof. It was one room and had several shuttered windows. Most Amazons lived simply and preferred to be outdoors most of the time. A luxurious home was considered unnecessary. He'd never been inside her home and wasn't too happy to be there now. This obviously wasn't going to be a pleasant social call.

Ninsala slammed the door shut. The shutters were already closed and Anteros was glad that no one was going to see the humiliation he was sure to be suffering very soon.

"How dare you? I spend four years training you and on your last day you behave like a novice. A foolish novice at that!" she shouted.

Anteros' head was hanging in shame. "I'm sorry, Mistress," was all he could think to say. Anteros was normally a very polite and rarely chastised member of the community. In the last few hours his brain had been crippled by his lust and he couldn't seem to do anything right.

"Look at me, when I talk to you! I trained you to be a warrior, not a sniveling slave!"

Anteros raised his head and looked her directly in the eye. His face was flushed with shame.

"Do you know why I am so angry with your performance, Anteros? Do you have any idea?" she asked loudly.

"I have not performed up to your expectations, Mistress. I failed you," he answered.

"That is part of it, but not all. You are going to train with adults, Anteros. I told them you were one of the best students I've ever taught, despite the fact that you are only adequate with a bow. Great things are expected of you. If you go to Diana's class and miss a target at 200 paces you will bring shame on yourself and shame on me!"

Ninsala had given no sign that her anger was softening. Ninsala was not a subtle woman. She said what she thought and her facial expressions punctuated her words.

Anteros stood motionless, looking her in the eye as she expected a warrior to do. He'd made her angry enough already. He had no intention of angering her further by disobeying her order to look at her.

"There is more to it than that, Anteros. What I am teaching you is deadly serious business! Only a very good swordsman can best you if you do as you I trained you to do. If you forget your training some unskilled bandit may kill you! Is that how you wish to die, Anteros? Would you like to have your throat cut by a bandit with a cheap stolen sword?"

"No, Mistress," answered Anteros.

Ninsala finally lowered her voice. She was still scolding him but he was relieved that she was no longer shouting at him.

"Then you must concentrate, Anteros. I've know you since you were a small boy," said Ninsala as she stepped close to him and looked up at his face. "Now look at you. You are a head taller than I am. For eighteen years we've fed, clothed, and educated you. Soon you will be traveling with our trading parties to protect them. It would be a terrible waste to have you killed before you were even fully grown."

Ninsala moved to a simple wooden chair and sat down, crossing her long tan legs as she did. She seemed to have gotten her anger out of her system, but she wasn't quite done with him yet.

"I know that you were initiated, Anteros. I also know that it is something that makes your mind wander. But you must understand, Anteros that your life depends on learning the way of the warrior. You will have many opportunities to be intimate with women, but you have only one life. When you are holding your sword or your bow, there should be nothing on your mind but using them as well as you possibly can. I don't care how attractive you find Lorissa's behind. I don't care what Lien did you this morning or what she'll do to you tonight. The only thing that matters when you hold a weapon is using the weapon as you were trained to do. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Mistress," answered Anteros.

"Very well. Return to the archery range. Don't stop practicing until you've put 10 consecutive arrows into the target at 200 paces. Then come back here."

"Yes, Mistress," he answered as he hastily exited the house.

It didn't take Anteros long to meet Ninsala's goal. He was determined to succeed and his next ten arrows struck the target. Any one of the ten would have killed a man.

He walked slowly back to Ninsala's house. The door was open and he saw Ninsala and her assistant instructors inside.
