Shift Work Pt. 04

CHAPTER 9

The woman companion stayed the night as they were pleasantly exhausted and she returned home the following day. Before her leave, she hugged them both and thanked them for the amazing night they spent and looked forward to their next meeting.

"You can't tell me you didn't like how this turned out." She told him shortly after and his smile was all the proof she needed to know that her idea of the threesome would be wonderful and she loved him so much that she knew it would be best to share and not keep secrets from each other.

The time had come when he realized he should have been called back to work but with the desire to stay home with his love, he cared little that he was not called in.

"They'll call me if they need me I suppose." He told her. She too didn't care and enjoyed his presence at home.

All was forgiven between them and life returned to their normal ways but the sudden phone call at five in the morning was brutal. She soon came to realize, after pounding her fist on the alarm clock that it was not that that had been ringing.

Still in a state of half-drowse, she reached for the phone and answered it with an equally drowsy "Hello?" Hearing her love's name on the line she dropped the phone on his chest and mumbled, "For you." and resumed her comfortable posture to sleep once more.

He took it up and listened. "Mm hmm," a pause, "alright." another pause. "Yeah." And the phone hit the floor.

"Who was that?" She mumbled in her pillow.

"It was work."

"You have to go in?" She asked, and turned her head to look at him.

"No." He told her, still in shock at the news and staring blankly at the ceiling. "They let me go." He whispered.

She snuggled up to him, resting her head on his chest and whispered. "I'm sorry."

He began caressing her hair, letting its silkiness tease his fingers, bringing him back to the now. "It's alright, we hated that place anyway."

"What now?" She asked him.

He leaned his head down as much as he could reach and whispered, "This." and he kissed her. Moments later, he commented, "You win."
