I think you know the outcome by now. We did eventually get back together and, as a memento of the whole ordeal, I had an eight-inch by four-foot wooden plaque painted with these words:

Some Things Are Meant To Be

It's hanging over our patio door. "Why would you want a reminder like that?" you might ask. Because I believe Colleen and I were meant to be together. I even believe that the whole mess with Bill was meant as a wake-up call that both of us needed. We had begun to take each other for granted and we had some deep-rooted issues that we needed to resolve. Without the trauma that we went through, I wonder if we would ever have appreciated one another as much as we do now.

After we decided that dating was wearing us out, I let her move in again. This time I carried her suitcases over the threshold and up to the master bedroom. We celebrated that evening by going to McDonalds® because that's where the children wanted to go. She and I didn't care as long as we were all together.

That night, after we put the children to bed, I gave her a new key to our home and I said, "This is a key to the house where we live. You alone have the key to my heart. It's locked up inside you and I expect you to use it often, starting tonight. "

And use her "key" she did. She unlocked every door imaginable as we celebrated our love for one another long into the night. I tasted every inch of her delectable body, and we made love just about every way possible. True to her promise (or was that a threat?) she did indeed ravish my body. We had not made love like that since we were first married and I just knew the children were going to be awakened by our very noisy reunion.

When at last we both agreed that we could go no more, I leaned down and kissed her longingly and passionately. Then I asked, "How did you know it was me at the Hilton®?"

She giggled and replied, "Because you had on that stupid baseball cap with 'Life Begins at Forte' written across the front of it. I gave you that cap for your birthday. Don't you remember?"

EPILOGUE

Chris and I had our meeting that Monday morning and we talked about a lot of things. He told me that he really admired how I had proven myself as a manager. He said he couldn't believe the way I had worked so hard and sacrificed so much to make his stores successful. He also apologized again for some things he had failed to understand. He just assumed that I was okay with things the way they were since I hadn't complained about the overwhelming challenges.

He didn't need to remind me that he was President/Owner and General Manager of all the stores but he brought it up anyhow. Then he told me that it was becoming too much for him at his age (he was over 60) and he wanted to relieve himself of some of the pressures he had to deal with.

I didn't know where he was going with this until he finally asked me, "Ed, how would you like to become General Manager of all my stores? It means you won't be selling anymore, but you will be training all the salesmen in all the stores. You will also oversee the operations of the stores along with managing the inventories. I'll provide an automobile, give you a credit card to cover your expenses, and pay you $75,000 a year. I might even work out some sort of arrangement for quarterly financial incentives as I see the sales volume grow. How does that sound to you?"

I sometimes fail to control my quirky sense of humor, and in this case I responded, "How does it sound to me? Hum a few more bars. I think I'm beginning to like that tune."

I wasn't sure he understood my attempt at humor so I quickly added, "I am flattered that you would ask, Chris, and I would look forward to the challenge. Thank you for having the confidence in me to offer me the job. When do you want me to start?"

"Would two weeks from today be okay with you? I'll need to make some changes, and they will take me about that long. In the mean time, take a vacation. You deserve it, and Mike can continue to handle your store. Besides, I think I'll make Mike the manager and send over some other salesmen to cover the schedule."

I started my new job two weeks later, but I didn't tell Colleen that it was going to happen until the day after she moved back into our home. That was the day I brought my new BMW home for the first time. I saw the look of panic on her face as she asked, "How on earth can we afford a car like that, Ed? What are you doing with it and what's going on?"

I decided it was time to come clean about my new position. Was she happy to hear the news? Suffice it to say ... she about wore out her "key" to my heart again that night.

Why does Ed think he exaggerated for Colleen about Bill's rant during the outburst in front of the company's management, calling her a slut? He could very well have told the truth about fucking her last night, given how Colin got angry at her husband and blamed him for everything that could happen now. She could have met her lover and carried out her threats and expectations. Once, having started communicating with Bill, lying to her husband for Colleen became as easy as pissing two fingers.

How could a smart woman be so stupid so quickly? It's hard to believe she's the same person in the second half of the story. However, I am a sucker for a happy ending and I enjoyed it.

The story was good in another reality

Colleen could not be thrown out of the house ,if she called the police he had to let her in or leave himself. In court she gets custody and he gets screwed . Glad they worked it out but your story line was a fantasy in our court system today. Why she left the home is another story.
