It shot towards him, claws wrenching at the dirt and pounding against the stone road as it attacked. Its hand lifted midway through its stride, a green shadowy mass of fog screamed towards him. Markus could feel his heartbeat, his rapid breath, and his temples pulsing. His teeth clenched together so hard he feared they would crack.
His hands moved of their own accord and fingers twisted, as his voice shouted in a sharp deep tone. His fingers crumpled into a fist as he punched the air, a white flash pulsating out of his hand. It flew across the twenty metres that yet separated them. It burst through the green fog in a loud crash and streaked towards the creature.
The demon's chest caved inward then burst as a fist of force struck. Crimson blood spattered the ground and road as the giant beast smashed into the ground and dragged along the stone until stopping and crumpling at Markus's feet.
The beat of his heart quieted, and his hearing returned. Markus could now hear the moans of pain, and gurgles of men choking on their own blood. The men clumped around a pile of shadowy demons. The wind flicked white specks upon Markus's fingertips, as he stared down and rubbed them together, it smeared like ash.
His head slowly lifted and saw the burned husks of horses and their riders on the road, the steel armour now blackened and where once was skin was now charred bones. Their skin had become ash; it drifted on the wind
The smell of charcoal and sulphur filled his nostrils as Markus leaned over his saddle and emptied his stomach. If this is what it is to be a wizard... Archangels save me.
"Bridgette! Rebecca!"

Anonymousover 4 years agoEven though it was a good well written story I still feel like I wasted my time reading another never to be finished story.
Could someone please tell me why people like Alex even bother writing stories when they never finish them.?
Oh well, I'll just have to add this story to the thousands/tens of thousands? of other good but unfinished stories floating around the net.
Gave it the one star it deserves for being unfinished.

AlexCLawrenceabout 5 years agoAuthorHey, thanks for reading. I'm happy to say your comment snapped me awake and I stared with horror at the calendar. I updated the profile to provide clarification on plans for the story. Such a long gap isn't going to be the case for future chapters.
Anonymousabout 5 years agoa gritty epic fantasy series. That description from your biography sounds great the only problem I can see is you also said around 60-70 chapters. Seeing as it's been nearly 3 months since you posted the first chapter is there any news on when we can expect another chapter to be posted?.
Even if you manage to post a chapter a month, it will take 5-6 years to finish the book if it is 60-70 chapter long. If you are going to take 3 or more months between chapters many of your readers will probably be dead before you finish the book LOL.
I imagine you have read Teflers TSM series and seen that he is making quite a nice living out of it and think you will do the same thing with Son of Mars and Venus. From what I read in the first chapter I think that you can make a living out of this story, whether you will be a successful as Tefler only time will tell. But one thing I can tell you with certainty is that you will have to post a lot more than one chapter every three months or more to be anywhere near as successful as TSM.
