"Please don't kill me Appu. I will never cross your path again. Please Appu." Moving sideways with eyes still fixed on Appu she reached the door, and in one swift movement she opened it and was out. Appu heard her clattering down. He heard the creak of the gate, and he could follow her footfalls as she ran down the road and turned the corner.
The grin on his face gradually subsided; he became serious and then a bemused smile played on his face. Appu pulled on a dhoti and lay on the sofa. He composed himself to sleep.
