CONCLUSION:
With a bit of luck I haven't caused any heads to explode. You don't have to take all of this on board at once. Feel free to take away the notes you find most useful and write a little something with it in mind. Confidence comes from practice after all.
And with this information you can deconstruct any story you like. Sit down and watch a movie and do the same. It doesn't take the joy out of reading or viewing. Personally I found that it left me with a greater appreciation for both works of intellect and works of passion, so long as they were balanced and well executed.
