He turned back to face her, his chest confirming his tale with the healthy state of its skin. Nowhere could she see the scratches she was certain she'd made, with the claws now hanging safely hidden in the closet.
"Damn," he said, pausing as he got into bed, "I could've done with having my face all bandaged while I played. Might have come out on top if I had, talk about the perfect poker face."
She ran her palm over his bare chest, her touch verifying what her sight had told her. Trying to mask her astonishment as he turned to her, she pulled her hand swiftly away, turning the smile on his face into a look of concern.
"What's wrong? You've gone all pale," he said, "I know it's Halloween, but you look like you've seen a ghost."
