I took a drink, so that I could watch Drew closely, without being too obvious. "No. It's something new for me." he replied.
I put my empty glass down, "Well anyone for the third?"
"Not for me." answered Tim. Drew just drank down the remains of his second pint.
I didn't want to be left here with Drew. He seemed to be walking a very thin line that could upset me a lot. "Well, I think I should call it a day as well. Is that OK with you Drew?" I turned to him, looking concerned.
"Oh! Sure. I can get home and tell my flatmates my good news. Then I can go out to the pub again with them."
As we left, I caught up Tim to walk with him. Drew headed in the opposite direction.
"Did that sound like it raised the possibility of obsession, or am I being paranoid?" I asked Tim.
He glanced at me as he walked along. "It certainly struck me that way. Nothing that we could accuse him of, but the possibility of a problem. I did ask Dav whether she had trouble with him, she assured me that there was no problem."
"That's what she said to me. She did say she was sure he would like to ask her out, but as long as she was with me, that was not going to happen." I sighed. I didn't like this sort of pressure, Drew stalking through the long grass like some lion waiting for me to weaken and make a mistake.
"Well, there's nothing we can do about it. I suggest that you don't say anything to Davinia. It will only worry her, or she'll be sure you are paranoid."
We got to the corner where we really did need to go our separate ways, he stopped and looked at me in the streetlight, "He may just be hanging around in the sure and certain knowledge that you and Davinia won't last for ever. In fact, going on your previous record, he knows that its bloody unusual that you've lasted this long."
I slapped him on the back as I turned to leave, "Why don't I find that comforting?"
