When Alex would bring it up, she'd find different ways to change the subject and jump his bones like a coocoo clock in distraction. His dick never seemed to mind in fact it was usually ready before he was. However Alex knew at some point they had to talk about it, they had to talk about what they were doing.
More importantly he wanted to talk about why she was avoiding the subject so harshly. It had been over a month, and as fun as it had been for him as well, Alex thrived on Harlee's company. She was beautiful, smart, intelligent, independent and stubborn as hell. Alex needed her to open up more he wanted to see her stressed out, upset or even angry.
Alex knew Harlee intentionally kept him in the dark about more important subject matter. A part of him loved that about her, she was his mystery novel and each day he turned the page onto something new. The other part of him, knew this was toxic, he knew that he could never actually be with her or anyone who would hide themselves from someone they loved. He was always open, honest and supportive to her; she was only 40 when he was 100.
"So, what do you have going on today?" He asked, while he stroked her now temporary straight hair.
"Hmmm, well just classes and a few papers to write. Why? Do you miss her already?" She said tauntingly as she referred to her pussy,
"No, I mean of course I do! I always want to hideout in her for a few days, but I was thinking we go to dinner and maybe an art exhibition tonight." He said, watching her closely as she selected her response.
"I mean... I would love to you know that, but I really don't want to drive all the way out to Augusta tonight I have an early morning tomorrow." She said pleading against the idea.
"Actually I was thinking we go to the High museum here in town, and we can go to dinner over in that area." He redoubled, as if he was holding his breath.
'Shit' she knew that was coming, but didn't think today was going to be that day. Harlee sat up from the bed and started to fish for her clothes, that had been misplaced around the room.
Her thoughts had always remained the same. 'Being someone's girlfriend caused problems; jealousy, neediness, and the unwelcomed and exhausting fighting over everything and nothing at all. What the two of them shared was magical and had no real complications and she loved it. We are free to be the entity without the labels, pressure or without anyone knowing.'
She thought Alex wanted that too but never wanted to address the issue with him, it puts too much unnecessary pressure on their causal sex and coffee. Simple is what she liked. Simple is what she needed, nothing else to complicate their semi-mutual understanding.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"Uhm classes remember... I'm still doing that..." She responded sharply.
"Are you not going to...?" He began, before she interrupted his sentence.
She placed a sincere kiss on his forehead and said. "I'll think about it okay, let me just get through these classes and papers and we can come back to that." She said sweetly as she started to return her clothes to her body.
"Harlee, I want to take you out locally. I hope you do know that right." He said to her firmly.
"Alex, I know you do, I'm just going to class. I'll be back in a little while" she lied. "I'm not running away from this I promise I just have shit I have to do. We will talk about whatever it is you want to talk about when I come back I promise" She said putting her shirt over her head.
Harlee placed one final kiss on his lips and was out the door before he could get up and stop her.
As Alex, stood in his now empty condo he still didn't know to read her. He still had no clue why she avoided talking about their relationship. He was losing the battle of escorting her out on the city, the same city that became a little brighter having her by his side. He would get so close to having her open up. There were a few moments when she didn't realize she would accidently reveal things about herself about her past, but then immediately change the subject on to him or something else entirely.
He never wanted to pry. He always figured that she would open up eventually, but as the days ticked by he couldn't deny that he was falling in love with her to a point. Alex felt knowing more would keep him there forever but at the same time he didn't just want to be intimate with her body he wanted to be intimate with her mind as well.
Alex would always take the extra initiative to remember and notice the smallest details about her. The only private details about her that Harlee provided about herself which she deemed "need to know" were: she was on the pill, her last name was Prince, and she was way over legal so no one was getting arrested. She was one semester away from graduation and prided herself in being a hard working honor student, and nothing and no one was going to stand in her way from graduation.
She had mentioned her ridiculous 3 point checklist that quickly became irrelevant since they met. A part of him was thrilled to have mastered it silly or not, But at the end of the day she felt that was all he really need to know about her. She loved the way he fucked her, talked to her, and respected her, that's it. All of that made him need to know more, it wasn't enough.
Alex admired her frequently and he created a list of his own about his beautiful woman. He knew that she slightly snored in her sleep and hogged the covers. That when she was making decisions in her head or studying her nose would wrinkle a bit. He knew how many freckles she had scattered across her face designating solely on her cheeks.
Harlee was overly shy in group settings, and hated having her photo taken, until recently, but that was his doing. He knew that when she got nervous she played with the rings on her fingers and that she also pushed her hair behind her ear out of habit not annoyance. She was very intelligent and wanted to teach math to grade school kids. She loved smooth jazz and that she was a sometime vegetarian.
Nevertheless, she would never talk about herself for too long. She never talked about her family or anything about her past. All he knew from her past was that she and best friend, Breanna, had been friends since their sophomore year in high school back in Chicago.
However he was determined to be more than just a man she fucked occasionally. He wanted to be the man that she never knew she needed. He could stimulate her sexually easily. He was a highly intelligent man with insight an artistic eye in life so the mental part was in the bag. Although he was in shape and worked out a few times the physical aspect was kind of apparent from day one, all those things were good but he knew he could offer her so much more as man than those 3 minor areas. He was trying to be what she needed; her lover, friend, confidant, rock, her ocean and her all around support.
Despite the all the things she didn't say, all of her actions, and her vulnerability, he still found himself falling deeply for her, and she wouldn't even let him tell her so. Harlee was his warm morning coffee, she danced in his heart like butterflies, she imprinted his soul like poetry and she was wrapped around his flesh like a vein.
In retrospect, what Alex didn't know and Harlee fought with everyday trying to hide from him was that he terrified her; he was everything she wasn't used to. He challenged her, he listened to her, and he had thoughts, opinions, and views on worldly things. He was a humanitarian and he loved nature. More importantly he fucked her mind, body, and soul every moment he had with her. He gave her things she never expected or experienced. She had no idea how to act or handle this whole thing, her best defense was to avoid, avoid, avoid.
He was the lingering scent of perfume left on the body at the end of the night. He was the blueprint to perfection with all the flaws. He was encasing his passion and she had no idea how to stop it. If she was standing at the gates of hell he'd be her salvation and she knew it.
