I read it twice, then a third and a forth time. She was wrong. No matter how many times I read it I knew she was wrong. Part of me wanted to crush that flimsy sheet of paper, to tear it into a thousand pieces and burn them all to ash. But it was from my Ellie, so I tucked it inside my coat right next to my heart where it belonged.
"That good?" Jessica said in response to my anguished look. "I'm so sorry Danny," she said hugging me.
"Thank you," I whispered for the comfort she offered me. She was good at it, but I guess she'd gotten a lot of practice with her mother over the past few months.
"You can come in with me if you want," she said offering a different kind of comfort.
"I couldn't... I... Jessica you're a..." I didn't want to hurt her but I had to say no.
"It's ok I understand," she said hugging me tighter. "I'll tell her you'd make a great step father if you think it would help."
I managed to laugh and for that I could never thank her enough. Looking back it was a sign that my life could and would go on, but at the time I was surprised I could laugh in a life without Ellen.

Consider this the "official" end to the story. When I start writing it months ago this was how I had planned its conclusion but my stories always take on a life of their own as I write them. The original plan was for a one part story and a love triangle between Dan, Ellen, and Jessica. I hope the sex between Dan, Ellen and Jessica didn't turn off anyone who's read this whole thing. I've hinted at it since the beginning and it was definitely part of the original plot in my mind, but I struggled with whether or not I should have the story take that turn. In the end I figured more people would be disappointed if it didn't finally happen.
After writing about Dan and Ellen for so long I became attached to the characters. Towards the end I found myself wondering what if things did work out between them? I wanted it to happen, it seemed like the right thing. Those of you satisfied with how it turned out can stop here. For people who are suckers for happy endings like me, there's one more chapter to come. Life doesn't work out the way we want it to sometimes, but there's no reason our fantasies shouldn't.

2Readerabout 2 years agoWhen I say too much sex. It’s not because of the sex. Sure it great. Four chapters of sex with just few sentences of discussion is a little pointless. The whole story could been told in one chapter. Maybe eight to ten pages just to get in all the sex you wanted with the actual story more compressed it would have been very good. I already knew mom daughter would do what they did. Didn’t know they were playing him though.
Btrying2almost 3 years agoI did not read the comments of others before I made my own not wanting to be influenced by any other thoughts or possibly negative comments.
After reading several comments on too much sex, I decided to make my thoughts known on that. While I did also skim several sex scenes and did have the thought there was too much, I realize we are not all alike in our desires and appetite for things erotica. While I find I no longer only read for wank material and really rarely do now a days, others do. Your writing can satisfy both groups, I just have to skim more when I feel I want to move along in the story. That is not a problem you need to address for me or others who have less or more tolerance for the sex. There is a solution each reader may implement individually.
Write as you see it. Your characters are well developed. Your plot moves and has appeal. Your writing style is easy and enjoyable to read. You create a wonderful fantasy land for my mind to wander. Don’t change!
Five stars may have been too little but the system limits me. Well done.
Now on to the next ending. 😎
Btrying2almost 3 years agoI have known in my gut the end would be something like this chapter ends. Her heartfelt letter to him was an amazing touch. Her rationale logical and filled with pain. The thing he needed to send him on his way finally even if it probably will be years not months sinking in entirely if ever at all. A point of disembarkation for him if he ever chooses to let her become the past.
However, I do read these essentially romance novellas because I guess I am a romantic. I do want the big happy ending so I will read further.
Thank you for a gripping entangling story.
Alberto_MBFabout 3 years agoI can't believe I am writing this comment, but there was actually too much sex. I found myself skimming a couple of the sex scenes to get on with the story. Also, I could have done without the Ellen-Jessica stuff. Still, a solid 5. Awesome story.
falcon72over 3 years agoGreat story, very well written. I can't believe I am saying this, but you could have cut 1/3 of the sex and it would have been better. Also have to agree with with several of the later comments, the pool house part ruined the story for me. That part alone caused so many issues with the story and was the final inexcusable lie that she told (she did tell several to him). There was no need for all of her lies, what she wrote in the letter was enough without them.
