The Daughter Ch. 01

Master Thomas felt relieved. He rolled his chair over to the type writer and made out a bill of sale for Cheryl. Mrs. Webberly smiled with pleasure as the document was handed to her husband for him to sign. The master then went to his safe, opened it, and counted out their cash.

Helplessly, Cheryl remained standing beside the examination table. Without a word to their daughter, the Webberlys allowed Miss Lankford to show them to the door. Cheryl would never see them again. Her new master grumbled as he got out his ledgers and began recording the transaction. Without looking up or speaking to her, he continued to work diligently on more paperwork. It was as though she wasn't even in the room.
