Giving a disgusted sigh, he turned back towards the sliding glass door, still on the other side of the railing. He thought maybe if he didn't look it would be easier. However, seeing the door just a few feet away was giving him second thoughts. Before he could change his mind, he let go with his hands, thrusting them out to his sides. He fell backwards until he was almost horizontal, and then he was free.
He was completely in the air, feeling the wind rushing past him as he plummeted to the rocks below. Suddenly, there was a bright light and he felt an invisible force catch his body. Then everything went dark.

Anonymousabout 1 year agore OpenWords: It's called 'survivor's guilt' for a reason. If I were to sort thru my many boxes of crap I call 'precious memories', I'd find a photo taken in Pat O'Brian's restaurant during my service days. Of the four men, I was the only one still alive two years later. Tommy had only 3 weeks to live before being murdered. Was I special? Did their parents love them any less than mine? They were all good friends and I wasn't responsible for their deaths or keeping them alive. I thought. 'That could'a been me,' Never, 'That should'a been me.' Therein lies the road to suicide, via noose, gun, drugs or alcohol. 5 stars for the side story alone.
