“Huh?”

Paul produced a velvet box containing a sparkling diamond ring. “I’m sorry to do this were I can’t even be on my knee, but I couldn’t wait. Jess, will you marry me?”

The whole hospital had to have heard her resounding “Yes!”

Anna sat in an uncomfortable plastic chair that had to become a permanent fixture to her butt in the past two days. She held John’s hand and watched him sleep.

“He’s going to wake up everyday, honey. Don’t you worry,” the nurse had told her.

He opened his eyes again, “Oh, it’s my guardian angel,” he whispered with a weak smile.

“Rest, baby, rest,” he smiled again and drifted off. She laid her head on his chest and dozed with him. “It’ll be fine.”
