The First Time

byRockwell©

One morning Adam and the woman began doing their job in the garden. The woman suggested to Adam they split up and divide the work to get more of it done. Adam didn't think this was a good idea for there was no pressure to do this job hurriedly but he relented when the woman implied he didn't trust her.

"Just remember don't touch that tree giving the knowledge of good and bad." Adam reminded her.

However, the woman wandered further away from Adam until she saw a snake slithering on the grass. In her mind, she sensed the snake was making a sound as if it was speaking to her, flattering her beauty. She looked at the snake and it was staring at her. Its eyes were mesmerizing her. So the woman walked up to the snake. "Are you talking to me? I wonder how you could possibly talk. I mean you of all animals around here are the most silent. You don't talk, like the parrot or make any sound like the others."

"I ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge," the snake replied.

"So you could talk now? Really?" the woman said, bright-eyed, and amazed.

"Yes indeed. Follow me and I'll bring you there." The woman followed the snake to the tree of knowledge.

This was the great plan of the evil one and he used the snake as his tool to tempt the woman to eat the forbidden fruit. He made it appear that the snake was talking although the woman was right, the snake had no voice organ. It is his talking voice spoken carefully in its beguiling way through the snake and he felt 'stupidly good.'

The snake asked the woman: "Did God really tell you not to eat fruit from any tree in the garden?"

"We may eat the fruit of any tree in the garden," the woman answered, "except the tree in the middle of it. God told us not to eat the fruit of that tree or even touch it; if we do, we will die."

The snake replied: "That's crap,"

"What did you say?"

"I mean it's not true; you will not die. God said that because He knows that when you eat it, you will be like God and know what is good and what is bad."

The woman saw how beautiful the tree was and how good its fruit would be to eat, and she thought how wonderful it would be to become wise.

Finally, the woman took the fruit and ate it. She then decided, to involve Adam. The woman went to Adam who was busily tending the garden.

"What took you so long?" asked Adam seeing his wife carrying some fruit picked from the tree of knowledge. The sight of the woman enthralled him but he was upset at the same time.

Adam asked the woman, "Are you eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge?"

"Yes. It's delicious. Here, take some and eat. Then we'll make love and be more knowledgeable in the ways of making love," the woman said this in her best alluring way.

Adam knew that the woman will surely die but he decided he couldn't live without the woman, so he took the fruit and ate it forgetting that he was going to disobey his Creator. He should have been firmed but the woman beguiled Adam like how the snake had done it to her.

The evil one shouted with joy. "How cunningly good I am. I am now the king of the world. Everything will be at my command. I have the magic spell, the tricks, and the gimmicks. How wonderful it is to feel like god." And he laughed boisterously at himself and his cohorts joined him in his reverie, tap dancing and making hip hop noises.

Then the evil one spoke to his evil court. "When man has propagated this world we will contaminate them so they will be one of us and as we become stronger we will triumph with our rebellion against God."

After Adam ate the fruit, he and the woman were seized with lust. Adam led the woman to the place where they first lay together. Adam made love differently to the woman. He was like a beast and was in a hurry.

"Adam, you're hurting me, please don't get too rough on me," she cried. He was kissing her slobbery and was biting her nipples.

"You like it don't you?" Adam's voice was stern.

For the first time the woman was confused and she found herself refusing and yet she found it also arousing. Then when Adam was humping her fast and furious, they heard the sound. It was the sound of God walking in the garden. But the air was different. Adam could feel a vengeful and angry God. Adam was seized by fear and at the same time had pulled out his seed planter from the woman's and despairingly grunted as he spilled out his seed onto her stomach. It left the woman short of reaching her orgasm and it wasn't very fulfilling.

"Come on, let's hide from the trees, God is coming!" Adam said pulling up the woman. They run to the bush, gathered some fig leaves and tried to cover their nakedness. Adam was filled with guilt and so was Eve. They felt ashamed of what they had done for they had disobeyed. The fig leaves seemed pathetic to cover up their shameful sin of disobedience. They couldn't face God.

God called out to Adam. "Where are you?" Adam trembled in fear for he knew he couldn't really hide from God.

"I heard you in the garden. I was afraid and hid from you, because I was naked." Adam answered. Adam knew he'd been naked physically but now it was different. He was exposing his inner nakedness, the conscience that had sinned and he was pathetically covering himself with an apron of fig leaves.

"Who told you that you were naked?" God asked. "Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to eat?"

"The woman you put here with me gave me the fruit, and I ate it." Adam replied not knowing he was blaming God for His mean-spiritedness in giving him a lousy partner in the Garden.

Then the Lord God asked the woman, "Why did you do this?"

She replied, "The snake tricked me into eating it." The woman was putting the blame on the snake. Not one admitted their mistakes or asked for forgiveness although they had both confessed that they ate the fruit.

Then the Lord God said to the snake. "You will be punished for this; you alone of all the animals must bear this curse: From now on you will crawl on your belly, and you will have to eat dust as long as you live. I will make you and the woman hate each other; her offspring will crush your head, and you will bite their heel."

Of course God was not cursing the snake but the one behind the snake. Because the snake really crawls on the ground and doesn't eat dust. The crawling is like a humbled enemy of the king, and eating dust meant humiliation and defeat. Temptation and sin will strike men just like when a snake will strike at them while they were unaware so men have to watch out for the snake like they have to watch out from sinning and being tempted to sin. The snake then became the symbol of the tempter, the beguiler, the cunning or the evil one. They will strike at the heel of men and each bite will be poisonous and life-threatening. But one day as God decreed an offspring of the woman will crush his head (the evil one). This pronouncement of God will be the doom of the tempter.

And God said to the woman, "I will increase your trouble in pregnancy and your pain in giving birth. Inspite of this, you will still have desire for your husband, yet you will be subject to him."

And he said to the man, "You listened to your wife and ate the fruit which I told you not to eat. Because of what you have done, the ground will be under a curse. You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce food for you. It will produce weeds and thorns, and you have to eat wild plants. You will have to work hard and sweat to make the soil produce anything, until you go back to the soil from which you were formed. You were made from soil, and you will become soil again.

Adam named his wife Eve, because she will be the life bearer, the mother of all human beings. And the Lord God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and his wife. An animal was killed as a sacrifice for the sin of Adam and Eve. It was the first sacrifice made to cover the sin of the first man and woman and the first death that occurred in the land. This was the foreshadow of Christ to be sacrificed to cover for the sins of mankind. Christ is the second Adam that will bring men back to God. Christ will be the offspring of the woman who will snap the head of the evil one, the snake, and the old serpent at the appointed time. But again rules will be followed for only Christ holds the shot on how men could get out from God's sentence of death. Death on this earth is just an extinction of breath and only a down payment for God's real death punishment which is the eternal damnation in the lake of fire. Here man is alive swimming in the lake of fire. The death here is his no liberty to escape the punishment. Man can possibly escape the jail but not this eternal punishment from God. He chose to disobey so this was the result. Was God so cruel as not to forgive? This is the reason, He created another Adam and his name is Christ. "Obey Christ, my only begotten son and you'll be saved from this eternal damnation. You'll be back to Eden, only this is a new Eden, much better than the original."

From then on human beings had to wear clothes to hide the bodies and for a sense of security.

Then the Lord God said to the heavenly creatures, "Now the man has become like one of us and has knowledge of what is good and what is bad. He must not be allowed to take fruit from the tree that gives life, eat it, and live forever."

So the Lord God sent Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden and made him cultivate the soil from which he had been formed. Then at the East Side of the garden he put living creatures ( His angels) and a flaming sword which turned in all directions. This was to keep anyone from coming near the tree that gives life.

When they were out of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were still blaming each other. When they were hungry Adam will have to look for food and it wasn't easy as before. He had to produce his food and he'll have to sweat it out by cultivating the soil. When they look back at the Garden of Eden there was lightning in all directions as if it is surrounded by a stormy weather. It was too scary to even go near the garden.

Now he feels weary, he feels aches and pain from his hard day's toil in the ground. Sometimes he is too tired to make love, his mind is suffused with worries. Eve his helper and wife also does a lot of things. Sometimes she herself is too tired to make love. But soon they were happy for Eve bore a child and named him Cain. Cain was followed by Abel. Life goes on but the joy of living is marred by miseries and pain. When Adam was 130 years old, he had another son who was like him, and he named him Seth. He had many other children and died at the ripe old age of 930. People living in those times live longer unlike the modern man. Through the centuries life was shortened. After the deluge life even got shorter and shorter. The canopy that shields the earth was torn and spotted like an old cloth. The climate had changed and storms battered the earth. Still the earth is beautiful but not as much as the Garden of Eden. Lovemaking was still good but not as good as the first time. Problems besieged mankind and they had to find solutions. There were always trials and error because you have to know good and bad. Men strive to always find the better life but the bad always prevails.
