The Lake House Lessons 03

"I know, I responded. "Maybe we can figure something out."

Later that evening, Sarah was in her room, and I was in the living room watching TV, trying to prolong the weekend before going to sleep. Surprisingly, Dad came in and sat down.

"You know how proud I am of both of you, and love the fact that the two of you get along. I'm sorry I haven't really been there for you and Sarah," he said.

"Don't worry, Dad, we understand. But we both wish you would lighten up and have some fun sometimes."

"Yeah," he said, "I know should, but I don't feel it. So tell me about the weekend. I was surprised that Sarah asked you to come along with her friends."

I paused, and decided to tell him some of the truth. "Dad, you know that I am not, let us say, socially adept."

"I guess so," he responded.

"So, Sarah found out that I was still a virgin, and she kind of arranged this weekend for me to lose my virginity."

Dad looked at me, smiled and shook his head. "Quite a sister you have," he said.

"I know," I responded sincerely.

"And did it work?" he asked.

"In fact, it did," I responded, smiling.

"Was it what you hoped?" he asked.

"Better," I replied.

"Good," he said. "I'm glad. Not everyone is so lucky. My first time was with this crazy girl in the woods when I was 15, and I wasn't really ready. It wasn't until later that I had a good experience."

With that, Dad stood up and went to bed. I followed shortly after.
