I pulled myself together. “It’s just been a weird day. I’ll tell you all about it when I get home. I’m heading there now.”
“Okay, baby. I’ll have dinner ready when you get here. Anything special you want?”
“No, whatever you want is fine with me,” I said, the thought of trying to eat making my stomach churn.
“Okay, then I’ll see you in a few minutes. Oh, and honey?” she said.
“Yeah?”
Her voice dropped. “I missed you today. I couldn’t get you off of my mind. Hurry home.”
