The Long Road Back Ch. 09

"That will never happen." I said reaching down and wiping a tear from her cheek.

"How do you know?"

I smiled, so softly, "because, if I ever walk out that door, I will take you and John with me. I can't live without you and John. You both are part of my soul. If I ever lose either of you, you will take a piece of me with you."

Crystal laid her head against my chest, crying. "I'm so sorry Hawk. I'm sorry if I've hurt you. I love you so much."

I just gathered her into my arms as she cried herself to sleep. Finally I lay her back on the pillow, smoothing her hair out of her eyes. As I lay there watching her sleep, somehow I knew then that everything would be okay.
