Sofia returned her gaze to me. There was playfulness, hunger, or laughter in her look. I saw pure fear, something I thought I'd never see on her face.

"Lorenzo, what have you done? The inscription! This is Pandora's Box!"

I knew the truth of her words as soon as they came out of her mouth and it was no metaphor. This was the literal Pandora's Box and I just unlocked it. A crack of light was now coming from the box as it began to open. We both quickly stepped back, only stopping when reached the edge of the water. As the box opened a gust of wind filled the cavern and light poured out of it. Suddenly, that light coalesced into something solid and turned towards the ceiling. It cut through the rock like a nuclear laser beam. We grabbed each other as two more of the lights came out of the box and surrounded us. I felt an undeniable grip take me and separated me from Sofia. We both flew up towards the new hole in the cavern. My last thought before I blacked-out was, "Shit, this is how I die."

Interesting

Great start. I'd like to see where this goes.
