His father grinned. “Yes it will. Do you have a problem with that?” His father dared him to say differently.

Looking down at Kathryn, Vin smiles. “No sir. I have no problem with making Kathryn my wife tonight.”

They joined the priest in the center of the ballroom, while the guests stood at the edges and watched the scene unfold. Servants brought glasses of wine around so they could toast the bride and groom as well as the incoming New Year.

The priest performed the ceremony, and as midnight arrived, Markus St. Vincent and Kathryn Belmont were pronounced as husband and wife. The orchestra played a slow waltz, and Vin took her into his arms, dancing around the ballroom.

Kathryn looked into his dark eyes. “Are you pleased, my lord?”

“Extremely,” he replied, giving her a sinfully sexy smile.

“You said earlier that you did not know. Are you jesting or truly you did not know?”

“I truly did not know. When I first saw you last night, something inside of me shifted and I didn’t know what to make of it. That’s why I left so abruptly. And then when we danced, I thought that I could get you off of my mind, but that only made things worse.”

“I am sorry for that,” she says, a little disheartened.

“No, Kathryn. I didn’t mean it like that. I meant it in a good way. It made me want to be with you and nobody else. And last night when I visited your chamber, I honestly had no idea that it was you.”

“So, do you make it a habit to visit young maiden’s rooms at night?”

Deciding to be honest with her, he replies “Until last night, yes. But no more.”

“I can accept that,” she says.

They danced for the rest of the song, and then made their way towards the stairs so they could retire for the evening.

His father stopped them. “Son, I’m proud of you.”

“I should be furious at you right now, but that is one emotion I am not feeling.”

“Oh? And what are you feeling?” his father asks.

“Happiness. A wise old man once told me that happiness can be found in the most unexpected places.” Vin hugs his father. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” he answers, watching them walk up the stairs. “Oh, by the way,” he adds, causing Vin and Kathryn to pause and turn around. “I expect my first grandchild before the end of the year,” he says, grinning.

Vin looks down at his angel and replies, “Oh, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem, do you, my lady?”

“No, my lord, I do not think that there will be a problem with that,” she answers, remembering the passion they shared last night.

Tyler’s laughter could be heard throughout the ballroom.

Eleven months later, Markus Tyler St. Vincent was born.
