Andrea stood up, gathering her clothes as she did. "Maybe I should be going."
"Please, stay," Indigo pleaded, but knew that Andrea couldn't.
"Not tonight," Andrea smiled. "We'll see how things go." She moved into the dining area and began to pull on her clothes with her back to Indigo. Indigo felt bad, and yet there really wasn't anything she could say to change things right then. They were colleagues and would see each other at work. How awkward those times would be was yet to be seen. Indigo felt a longing for Andrea. She had been the first black woman she'd ever been with, she realized as she watched Andrea dress. And there had been a difference emotionally. She had felt it. That had been the reason she had asked Andrea to spend the night with her. Maybe there had been a spark that might have grown into a flame, she wondered.
"I don't want you to go, Andrea," Indigo suddenly said. Andrea turned and looked at her then.
"Why?" she asked.
Indigo stood up and, still very naked, moved to stand in front of the now-dressed younger woman. She took Andrea's hands in hers and said, "I think that if you go, we might not see each other again, not like this. If you stay, we might never be apart again."
Andrea looked up and met Indigo's eyes. The moment stretched, and then Indigo lowered her mouth to hers. They kissed, this time with something other than sexual passion. This time, they kissed with an emotion bordering on love.
Andrea stayed.
