"Hey," that guy's voice – Dan? – comes again. "You two ready to join us?"
I open my eyes, sighing mentally, and not wanting to deal with this right now.
"Excuse me," Tara interrupts. "But I think my girlfriend and I will just chill here for now."
Dan looks at me, and then at her, and then at me again, a stupid look on his face for a moment. Then, a look of horror passes across his face as he gets it.
"Oh, oh, sorry," he says, walking off embarrassed. "Have a nice day."
I look over at Tara, incredibly surprised and happy. She smiles back at me, untroubled, and grabs my hand. I grin widely back at her, and then put my head back and close my eyes again, holding her hand while we lie in the sun.

NC22371over 9 years agoThis easily could've been a 5 page story, without getting boring. Gonna actually miss the characters, like you would with a TV show that ends it's series.
