When I was finished telling my story, Mel came over and lay down next to me. She kissed me on the cheek, and took me in her arms. We lay cuddled together, both of us crying, and I felt the tension and fear flow from my body. We really were soul mates, and I loved this woman like I've never loved anything in my life.
It was getting late. I knew I had to take Mel home soon. She had fallen asleep in my arms and I hated to disturb her. She looked so peaceful. As if reading my mind, she stirred, and realizing I was awake, she sat up and looked at me, brushing my cheek with her fingers. I smiled.
"I should probably take you home, huh?" I said. "I have to get some sleep. Got my first doctor's appointment tomorrow."
"I was thinking. Maybe I should go with you for support?" she asked timidly.
"Would you really do that for me?" I asked incredulously. "That would mean a lot. I'm really pretty nervous."
"Of course I'll go. Why don't I just stay overnight and we can get up together in the morning and prepare you for this. Prepare US for this."
I grabbed her hand and helped her up from the floor. I led her to my bedroom and after brushing our teeth and relieving ourselves, we got into bed, kissed each other goodnight and snuggled together. We woke up in the same position to face a new day, and a new life.
