Zach looked at the time on his watch. It was getting late as he sat on the bleachers of the football court. He was impatiently waiting for Ashley to finish her cheers. They had been high school sweethearts, and now attended the same college. It was their second year at the university, and while Zach remained a Psychology major, Ashley switched from Nursing to Physical Education. She applied for the college cheer-leading squad, and was quickly accepted; after all she did fit the bill for the position. Ashley was a petite, red-headed hottie. She never had any problems with getting her way because of her looks, and she became popular in a very short time.

Zach supported her and came to all her practices and games; however, the whole routine was becoming tedious. He was beginning to realize that their relationship was suffering, because she never had time for him anymore. He loved her, but his patience was wearing thin. For the past two months, he couldn't count how many times she blew him off for practice and cheer-leading meetings. He had responsibilities too, and even he made time for her. Ashley was becoming too absorbed in the college football world, and didn't seem to care about them as a couple. Still, Zach was hesitant to leave her and hoped that she would come to her senses. Now he was waiting for practice to end, and it seemed that he would only have to wait half an hour longer.

"Thank God it's almost over." he thought.

"Hey man!" a voice called out to him.

Zach turned to see Shawn, one of the football players coming towards him. The two first met at one of the games, and became very good friends. He and Zach would sometimes double date with their girlfriends, and also drink together. Zach had been so busy with exams and trying to get some quality time with Ashley, that he'd abandoned his friend.

"Hey, how ya' been?" Zach replied.

"Good...got our game in two days. You coming?"

"I don't know. Ashley and I aren't doin' so good. Zach said sadly. "I gotta worry about my exams, plus I start an internship soon. It's gonna be tough."

"Damn man...well after the game, we're gonna celebrate right?" Shawn said, obviously trying to get his spirits up. "I haven't seen you in...shit I don't know how long! Maybe everything will be good with y'all after the game. Everybody's all stressed out."

"And you're not?" Zach asked with a slight frown.

Shawn always seemed to be able to keep his cool no matter what was going on. Zach envied him on that note.

"Nah man! I got this! You know those scouts will be there. They're gonna be looking for talent, and got everybody on edge. Maybe that's why you ain't seen your girl much. "

"Yeah maybe."

"Come on man, don't do that. Everything will be good! Maybe we can go see that new spy movie or sumthin'. I wanted you to meet my new girl. Well...she's not new anymore."

"New? What happened to Tara?"

"Oh... shit wasn't workin' out." Shawn replied nonchalantly.

"Oh, well...sorry man. What's her name?"

"Diana...matter fact, I think she's got a few classes with you."

"Maybe. I don't really talk to anybody much, and there's like over 100 students in all my classes."

"Well she's gonna meet me here in a lil bit. You can meet her."

Just then Ashley blew Zach a kiss from across the field, and he smiled and waved at her. At least she showed him a little attention. Unfortunately, this pleasant moment was quickly ruined when the star quarterback broke her gaze, and put his arms around her. She looked quite comfortable in his arms, and Zach's heart sank as he witnessed this. He pretended not to see any of it with Shawn sitting next to him, but his heart was ready to burst.

"You aight man?" Shawn asked.

"Yea I'm good!" Zach lied.

"Look, it's my girl." and Shawn's head cocked towards the direction of a young woman, who Zach had indeed seen before.

Diana was quite the opposite of Ashley. She was much heavier, but still had gorgeous curves. While Ashley was a B cup, Diane's breasts were probably in the DD area, and the rounded orbs swelled against her tight black sweater. They were probably the first thing a man would look at, but Zach always thought that she had the prettiest brown eyes. Although they were far apart in cultural backgrounds, he was still a man and appreciated a beautiful woman.

He felt a bit jealous as Diana made her way to Shawn, hugged him tightly and smiled happily. Ashley never did that anymore, and she never looked so happy to see him.

"Baby, I want you to meet my friend." Shawn said, turning to Zach.

Diana leaned forward in her seat to get a better view of him, and smiled.

"Hi, I'm Diana. You're Zach aren't you?"

"Yeah that's me." Zach smiled, feeling a little happy that she had recognized him.

"Yeah we have a few classes together. He's the smartest one there babe." she giggled.

"Nah...I'm just trying to stay on top of my work, that's all." Zach replied shyly, and ran his fingers through his raven hair.

"And he's modest. Don't listen to him baby. He always gets the highest scores on the exams, and he's the professor's favorite."

"Told you I don't only hang out with dummies." Shawn mumbled.

"Yeah, yeah. Hey um Zach, I always wanted to ask if you could tutor me or something. I was kinda shy, and I didn't wanna bother you before. I have 'okay' grades, but I wanna do better. Think you can help me? I wanted to get an internship at one of the top psychiatric facilities, but my grades weren't good enough. "

"Yeah of course. You could've asked me before. I wouldn't have turned you down or anything."

"I don't know...you look so serious sometimes." she laughed.

"I'm not that serious. I know how to have fun."

"No you don't!" Shawn interrupted." But you and Ashley are comin' out with us after the game. No excuses and no cancelling on me."

Zach didn't say anything, and only sighed as he spotted his girlfriend still in the arms of the quarterback. He didn't want to go. Instead, he wanted to run to his dorm, to bury his head under a pillow.

"Come on Zach. It'll be fun. We can worry about tutoring later." Diana urged on.

"Alright." he murmured, in a less than enthusiastic voice.

"Buck up man! We gotta go, but I'll call you later."

"Yup. It was nice seeing you again Diana."

"Yeah you too!" she smiled sweetly, while being led away by her boyfriend.

As both turned and walked away, arm in arm, Zach took notice of her wide hips and full behind. Shawn's hand slid down to her buttocks, and squeezed one of the soft cheeks through the black leggings. Diana giggled and huddled closer to him. He looked upon Shawn once again with envy. He missed being held like that, and wondered what having Diana in bed would be like. Before he could admire her any longer, his thoughts were interrupted by a high pitched voice, calling out from the base of the bleachers. It was Ashley. She was ready to leave, and wanted him to come down.

Zach made his way down, extremely annoyed at her now. New thoughts began to spring into his mind. Maybe he could do better than Ashley. It was obvious that they were growing further apart, and both wanted different things in life. He took into account what Shawn said and decided he would wait to see what happened after the game.

He didn't mention the quarterback until they had gotten to his dorm room.

"So what's going on with you and Steve?" he asked suspiciously, knowing he might not like the answer.

"What do you mean? He's...just a friend."

"I saw you in his arms and you didn't seem to care that I was watching. Shawn was right there too. That was a fucked up move Ashley!"

"Fucked up?" Ashley frowned.

"Yeah Ash... Fucked up! You know what? If you wanna be with him just say so. I don't have time to play games. I'm stressed out enough already."

"It's always about you isn't it? You think I'm not stressed?"

"What the hell are you talking about? After all my classes and exams, I still go to all your games, all your practices and most of the time I gotta watch this asshole putting the moves on you. It's not the first time, and I think you like it."

"I'm so not in the mood for this Zach."

"Neither am I. I think we should take a break or something."

"What the fuck?" Ashley fumed.

"I'm sorry, but I've had it Ash. You're probably better off with the quarterback."

"Yea you know what? You're right. He's a better lay than you anyway!" and she stormed out of his dorm without looking back.

Zach was crushed. She had actually slept with Steve, and he was the fool in the end. Right now he felt like throwing up. He couldn't believe all this was happening to him. He had hoped to spend some time with her tonight, to make up for lost time. Now he didn't even want to touch her after finding out that she'd been sleeping around.

"Damn bitch!" he muttered to himself as he sat at his computer, and began to work on his paper.

...three nights later

Zach drove to Shawn's apartment alone. They were supposed to have that double date, but he and Ashley were no longer together. She had blown up his cell phone for the past few days, but he didn't answer. His heart still ached because he missed her, but he knew that he deserved better. He hadn't gone to see the game, or left his dorm room much for that matter. He didn't want to run into Ashley, or Steve.

He had spoken to Shawn the day before, and assured him the he would show up even though he would be alone. Maybe spending time with some good friends would cheer him up, and break him out of his bad mood. He arrived outside the apartment, and called Shawn's cell phone. There was no answer. He tried again, but still nothing. He waited a few minutes, thinking that Shawn would call him back, but there was no returned call.

Zach got out of the car and rang the doorbell. It was an open apartment building, and so he proceeded inside. He'd been there many times before and wanted to see why Shawn was taking so long. Shawn's place was only three floors up, so he took the stairs without waiting for the elevator. While he made his way up, his phone began to buzz. Ashley was still calling. There was no way he would pick up, so he turned it off. As he approached the door to Shawn's apartment, he heard some yelling.

Wondering what was going on, he crept towards the front door. It was slightly ajar and he could hear a female arguing with Shawn.

"You're so fucked up. I don't know why I wasted my time with a dead beat asshole like you!" the woman shrieked.

"Di chill the fuck out! She was nobody. Just a friend." Shawn retorted.

"Yeah, that's why you had her ass half naked on the couch, thinking I wasn't home right?"

"Baby calm down. She don't mean nuthin' to me."

"Don't touch me Shawn. Just go on your fucking date. I'll be fine without you!"

Zach quietly knocked on the door, and stood there awkwardly as both Shawn and Diana glared at him.

"Um sorry. I just came looking for you guys." Zach said.

"It's alright. I'm not going." Diana responded. "You can take this cheating motherfucker with you! No wonder his last girl left him!"

Zach didn't know if either one cared to notice, but Diana seemed to have just stepped out the shower. She had no bottoms on, and wore only a tight white t-shirt. Her wavy hair was damp, and droplets of water stained the shirt with light gray streaks. The stains ran across her right breast, and the damp fabric clung to her bosom, causing her nipple to poke out against the material. He knew that this wasn't the best time to admire her, but he couldn't help it. She was gorgeous and at that moment, he wished that she was his girl. It seemed that their partners couldn't handle being faithful. He would have never cheated on Ashley, no matter how many times she ditched him, but he was tired and ready for a change.

"Di why you gotta' put our business out there? We..." Shawn addressed her.

"Our? We? There is no us anymore. I have no patience for dudes like you!"

Zach decided to excuse himself. This seemed to be a shitty week for everyone, and he just wanted to go home. He would watch a movie on Netflix instead.

"This is probably a bad time. I'll talk to you later." he said quietly.

"Yeah, aight man. I'll call you later." and Shawn turned to Diana, who still looked at him with disgust.

Zach walked away, but the image of Diana was still fresh in his mind. He could still hear them fighting as he made his way back down the stairs. He hoped that she wouldn't give Shawn another chance. Shawn was his friend, but he couldn't understand why he would give up someone as beautiful and intelligent as her.

He had spent most of the day working on his paper, and barely ate anything at all. He was starving, and decided to pick up a pizza, and a 6 pack of beer before he went back home. He actually felt a little better. It wasn't that he wished sadness upon Diana, but at least he wasn't the only one being fucked over.

He turned his phone back on, and hoped that Ashley had taken a hint. After 30 ignored calls, she needed to realize that he didn't want to speak to her anymore. He placed the pizza and beers on the dinner table, and headed for the shower. He needed to relax. It was the weekend and he had the next three days off. This was rare, and he planned to make the most of it, without Ashley. While undressing, his phone began to vibrate and he sighed knowing that it was probably her. He picked up the cell, but didn't recognize the number.

"Probably Ashley calling me from one of her friend's numbers." he thought.

He ignored the call and got back to undressing. He was only in boxers when his phone buzzed again.

It was a text message and he read it: "Zach this is Diana. I wanted to talk to you. I got your number from Shawn. If you get the chance, can you call me back?"

He quickly redialed and waited for her to pick up.

"Hello?" she answered sluggishly.

"Hi...sorry I didn't pick up. I didn't know the number."

"Oh, it's okay." she replied.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah I'm..." and she took a deep breath. "No, I'm not honestly."

"I'm sorry Diana."

"And I'm really sorry you had to see all that...but he's an asshole. I know he's your friend and all, but I'm just tired of childish men. God I actually thought he was different!"

"What happened? Everything seemed good when I called him yesterday."

"Well...he thought I was out shopping. I'd just come out of the shower, and I heard him and some girl laughing in the living room. I went to take a look and he was making out with this red-head. I think she's one of those stupid cheerleaders."

"A red-head?" he asked, even though he already knew the horrible truth.

"Yes I think her name's Ashley or something. She high-tailed it out of here when I threw a bottle of water at them. It hit the bitch on her head."

He laughed at this, even though his heart still ached.

"I guess I should tell you that she's my ex. I broke up with her the same night that I met you."

"Oh...Zach...I'm sorry. He went behind your back too. Man that's just so grimy." Diana said sympathetically.

"Looks like we both got fucked over huh?"

"It's okay...we'll survive. I don't need people like him around me anyway. Just a waste of space!"

"Yeah. I think I'll be keeping my distance too."

"Sorry you had to find out like that. I just needed someone to talk to."

"No it's fine. You can call me anytime."

"Anytime huh? Even late nights?" she laughed.

"I don't sleep much, so I don't mind."

"I wouldn't bother you like that."

"It's the weekend, so more than likely I'll be up late."

"Yeah...I planned to do a lot this weekend...with Shawn." she replied sadly.

"Well...what are you doing right now?"

"Um nothing...why?"

"Well I've got a pepperoni pizza and some beers...I'd love the company."

"Are you sure? I mean after everything that's happened I..."

"Don't worry about it...I think you deserve some fun after the night you've had. We were supposed to be celebrating tonight remember?"

"Well...okay."

An hour later, Diana arrived at his door. She still looked upset, but Zach wanted to change all of that. He thought of approaching the door with no shirt on, just to show off a little. He went to the gym regularly, and it was beginning to show. He wasn't ripped but his body was chiseled enough to get a few stares from women. He'd ignored all of the attention, because he was loyal to Ashley, but now she was gone and he wasn't going to look back. His strategy was to slowly seduce Diana...and he had no idea if it would really work. After all, she probably wasn't into white guys, and only dated jocks like Shawn. Still, based on what she said, she was tired of childish men and he was definitely not that.

He answered the door as planned with only sweatpants on, and gave her his best smile. She came over dressed in a loose white sweater and a pair of dark, tight leggings; probably the same that he'd admired a few days ago. Lucky for him, he'd chosen some loose pants which hid his erection.

"Hey, glad you came." he smiled.

"Hi." she said, almost looking like she'd been holding in tears.

She looked stressed out and tired. Zach felt like shit. He should have known better. She'd just caught her boyfriend in the act, and he was thinking of nothing but putting the moves on her.

"I hope I didn't make you feel pressured into coming here." he said remorsefully.

"Oh...no. I needed to get out of the apartment. I kind of moved in, and we'd been living together for a little while. I couldn't stand to be there any longer. It's too depressing."

"Damn...I'm sorry. Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"

"I don't know. Well...you did give me an excuse to leave, so that is something." she sighed.

"Does he know that you're here?" Zach asked, and motioned for her to come in.

"No...I just walked out. He wanted to know where I was going, but I just ignored him. I can't wait to get my stuff out of there."

Zach walked her to his couch and they sat down, but not too close to each other.

"It just occurred to me that I should've picked you up. It's freezing out there."

"I'm okay Zach. I needed to clear my head...so it was good to walk."

"Shit...I'm sorry Di. Next time I'll come get you."

"Next time?" and she smiled at him for the first time since she'd been there. "Sure...okay. I'd like that."

Zach spoke without realizing what he was saying. Yet that little slip up, got him an answer he hadn't expected. There would be a 'next time.'

"How long were you guys together?" he asked.

"About three months. I didn't think it would end up like this though. How about you? How long were you with your girlfriend?"

"Three years. We went to high school together, then came here. We had everything planned out but she started to change on me. I don't know...maybe it's my fault."

"Your fault? Did you do something wrong? You don't look like an asshole, or the cheating type."

"No I never cheated on her or anything like that. Maybe I wasn't what she wanted."

"Look Zach...I'll say this, and then we gotta end this little pity party okay? You're smart, you're really nice, and a good looking guy. She obviously didn't know what she had. She'll come back to you."
