I cut him off. "Daaaavid," I chided.
He looked at me. We locked eyes for a brief moment and then he nodded softly and looked at his mother. "Got it," he said, sufficiently chastised.
I stood up as well and followed Kathy's example. "I think I'm gonna turn in, too, kids. Sue, you've got school tomorrow and, Dave, since you're so drained of energy, maybe it'd be a good idea for you to hit the sack, too." The not-so-subtle context there was that I felt enough was enough and everyone should separate quickly before conversations either turned ugly, provocative or crazy.
David and Sue nodded their understanding and each wished us a good night's sleep.

Great read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this chapter. Will start reading chapter 2! I'm curious if all of those things that Sue said were fact of fiction. Regardless, very well written.
