"Dave is right. I really screwed up. I tried to pretend that it was alright for me to go out to dinner with Tom, but I knew what he wanted. I had no intention of giving it to him, but that's splitting hairs. I betrayed Dave when I accepted the offer and deep down I knew it. I had no trouble seeing it for what it was when you all showed up without your husbands," admitted Becky.
"I was horrified at your behavior, all of you. I loved and respected you, and your husbands. I hated seeing you cheat on them. It sickened me. It took a while for me to realize what you all were really doing. I've shamed myself before the people that mean the most to me. My own mother, sister, and daughter think I'm a cheap slut. Wait, I'm wrong. You don't think it, you know it!" she lamented.
"The worst thing is what I've done to Dave. He warned me. He tried to tell me about Tom, but the problem wasn't Tom. It was me. I was vain, stubborn, and foolish. There are always men like Tom. They would never be able to succeed if the wives remembered what's important. I thank God I have a man like Dave, if I still have him," sobbed Becky.
It was obvious that Becky was suffering, but I think all of us felt she deserved it. Consequences are a bitch. Becky was learning that now.
"Dave, it's up to you to decide what happens now," finished Becky.
"Well, Dad. I know what your decision had better be if you don't want to be changing your grandchild's diapers by yourself," interjected Jen, "and that's only about seven months away! Can you tell Mom you love her and let the rest work it self out? You wouldn't break a promise to your daughter, would you?"
"Becky, you make me so goddamn mad!" I whispered.
"That's it, Dad! Sweet talk her!" chuckled Jen as her grandmother and aunt laughed with her. "Mom, he's softening up! We all saw how Dad gets when he's actually mad. That Tom guy came as close to taking a beating as man can come. He's merely upset with you, Mom."
I pulled Becky to me and hugged her hard. I wasn't sure if I had forgiven her, but I had no doubts that I loved her. I guess that's why marriage is so difficult. When your daughter tells you that she's going to give you a grandchild, it puts a lot of the shit you've had to put up with along the way in perspective. For me, love and family are all I really need, or want.

Just a Story
But it does raise the issue of what is and what is not appropriate in a marriage. In this story we have a mature woman who unless she is dumb or plain stupid is aware of the motive behind the extra attention being paid to her by another. Assuming she is not stupid then she must be aware, had she admitted to hubby that she was aware but was just having a bit of fun with this man and letting him make a fool of himself, all well and good. To defend him and tell her husband he is just being jealous and then agree to meet him without telling her husband means that the marriage is already finished. If any of us feel the need to keep something secret from our other half it's self explanatory, it's wrong. In fact I will be spending a few days in Granada with a married woman, my wife, it's our wedding anniversarymore...
Very Thoughtful!
Wow, did this story make me think. I don't know about a husband fighting for his wife. If he has to fight to stop her from cheating, he already lost. The wife has to fight for the marriage and not go out with a man hunting for some strange. What she did was wrong on so many levels. What would have happened if the husband didn't set up the night with mom, sister and daughter? We'll never know. Will she be smarter next time? A marriage is a two party agreement. They both have to fight to make the marriage work...but not fight to keep the other from cheating. Thanks.more...
Thoughts
Why not tell her that even Mrs. Zimmer is noticing?
And a husband shouldn’t HAVE to fight for his wife.
Doesn’t Becky find it odd that a MARRIED man wants to take her out to dinner without his WIFE? Doesn’t it occur to her to check with Lorraine to make sure she’s aware of Tom’s plans?
“Dave would be extremely upset. I know that for certain," Becky correctly reasoned. "It could get ugly fast if he found out."
So, the only problem is that Dave might get upset? She WANTS to do this, sees nothing wrong with it?
Why doesn’t he go to Tom, and tell him to stay the fuck away from his wife? Sure, Becky will get pissed, but since she seems unwilling to see reality he has no choice.more...
the difference
This isn't a wife out looking for some strange, just a prideful woman thinking she is doing no harm to her marriage while she is.
Not thinking that this will cause her to think that she has got it past her husband and make her think less of him and lead her down that slippery slope to cheating.
Giving rope is for those that have already gone too far down the path to ever come back, then the reason is to game the corrupt system so that the asset division and/or child custody is more reasonable or to make it so that others see the truth about her, or in extreme cases a gonad recovery.more...
He didn't give her enough rope...
He didn't give her enough rope for her to hang herself...He only gave her a little rope...But he was lucky listening the call...If he hadn't listened, she really would have hung herself...
