"Dave is right. I really screwed up. I tried to pretend that it was alright for me to go out to dinner with Tom, but I knew what he wanted. I had no intention of giving it to him, but that's splitting hairs. I betrayed Dave when I accepted the offer and deep down I knew it. I had no trouble seeing it for what it was when you all showed up without your husbands," admitted Becky.

"I was horrified at your behavior, all of you. I loved and respected you, and your husbands. I hated seeing you cheat on them. It sickened me. It took a while for me to realize what you all were really doing. I've shamed myself before the people that mean the most to me. My own mother, sister, and daughter think I'm a cheap slut. Wait, I'm wrong. You don't think it, you know it!" she lamented.

"The worst thing is what I've done to Dave. He warned me. He tried to tell me about Tom, but the problem wasn't Tom. It was me. I was vain, stubborn, and foolish. There are always men like Tom. They would never be able to succeed if the wives remembered what's important. I thank God I have a man like Dave, if I still have him," sobbed Becky.

It was obvious that Becky was suffering, but I think all of us felt she deserved it. Consequences are a bitch. Becky was learning that now.

"Dave, it's up to you to decide what happens now," finished Becky.

"Well, Dad. I know what your decision had better be if you don't want to be changing your grandchild's diapers by yourself," interjected Jen, "and that's only about seven months away! Can you tell Mom you love her and let the rest work it self out? You wouldn't break a promise to your daughter, would you?"

"Becky, you make me so goddamn mad!" I whispered.

"That's it, Dad! Sweet talk her!" chuckled Jen as her grandmother and aunt laughed with her. "Mom, he's softening up! We all saw how Dad gets when he's actually mad. That Tom guy came as close to taking a beating as man can come. He's merely upset with you, Mom."

I pulled Becky to me and hugged her hard. I wasn't sure if I had forgiven her, but I had no doubts that I loved her. I guess that's why marriage is so difficult. When your daughter tells you that she's going to give you a grandchild, it puts a lot of the shit you've had to put up with along the way in perspective. For me, love and family are all I really need, or want.

5 Stars on a great story Thank You says GW .. Sadly due to my ex leaving me almost broke for a guy with no job anywhere . But his family had millions of dollars . She wanted the good life and thanks to the Police I could not lay a hand on him . Yes I had been in enough fights to know i could get the job done . The worst mistake was showing up at my apartment with 2 of his bigger friends . I showed them my 2 friends Smith and Wesson 9 mil . Then he called the cops but I had the right to defend myself said the police .

I get the same feeling that TOB seems to have - why do some people take the time to 'read' a story but miss the point entirely (sometimes I wonder what story they actually read)! Thanks for the tale HDK.

I don't think people really get it, at least not from the comments I read. Becky absolutely DID NOT have the intention to cheat on Dave. She was being stubborn because she didn't want to feel like Dave owned her, a pretty normal reaction honestly - and the a-hole used that against her as part of his seduction. She knew what she was doing was foolish, but she felt like she could handle it and prove to herself that Dave was wrong and she was right. Honestly guys (and gals) - this is how a lot of this shit gets started for people. They put themselves in situations that they have no business being in out of a natural instinct to chafe against boundaries that all human beings have. Generally, more mature people, or ones who have been kicked a few times by life, are better at bearing that yoke, because not every boundary is one that can't be transgressed occasionally, but they steer clear of the ones that lead to the nuclear option. Becky was definitely heading down that nuclear path, but her reaction to seeing what she saw was genuine. She was appalled when a mirror was held up to her own actions and I think that shows her true intent and character. This was a wonderfully written, if whimsical story about someone being forced to look at themselves and being ashamed at what they saw. The sad truth is - people who haven't experienced that level of introspection are people like Becky in the beginning of this story, easy to manipulate when their own pride is used against them. It's not an uncommon thing, not at all. It just plays out in everyone's story a little differently.

To really put the final touch to this story, he should drive to Tom's house and insist that his wife explain to Loraine about Tom had been doing.

You know, just in case Loraine wanted to pretend that she knew her husband was "just being friendly."
